World War 2 – Waffen SS Soldier – Battle in the Ardennes

World War II photo – German soldier from the Waffen SS. This is a well-known shot from the series about the Battle of the Ardennes. Early on the morning of December 18, 1944, between the villages of Poteau and Recht, an American 14th Cavalry Group was ambushed by the German battle group Hansen (Kampfgruppe Hansen) and was completely destroyed.

Immediately after the battle, a film and a series of photographs were shot for propaganda purposes. Waffen SS soldier, depicted in the photo, meets in several photographs and became a collective image of SS soldiers of that period from World War II. There are unconfirmed data about his name: Arno Funk or Funke.
