Order of adjectives We sometimes get confused about the order of adjectives if we need to use more than two in a row. When doing practice tasks, the order often seems unclear. We are told to remember the following rule: quantity/number - quality/opinion - size - physical quality - shape - age - colour - origin/material - purpose/qualifier 🤯 For example: five beautiful big clean round old green Italian frying pans 🤯 Why would I ever use that many adjectives to describe an object??? Now, now calm down and remember: we typically use two adjectives, sometimes three. Do I have to remember the order? Well, if you are a Russian speaker, I would say no as, in my opinion, the order of adjectives in English is similar to that in Russian. However, I can't say we often consciously think about the order in which we arrange words in general. So, it makes sense to have an idea about the rule in English. Examples: It's an amazing new film. amazing - opinion (goes first) new - age It's a long narrow street. long - size (goes first) narrow - shape It's an old brown leather jacket. old - age (goes first) brown - colour (second) leather - material (the last adj.) ❓You will put those adjectives in the same order in Russian, won't you? #vocabulary #grammar

#tongue_twister Here's a list of short B tongue twisters. The idea is that you need to say each tongue twister 3-5 times in a row without making a mistake. Have a go! Double bubble gum bubbles double. The big black-backed bumblebee. A big blue bucket of blue blueberries. Belgian brothers biking for big business bank budgets. Black background, brown background. It’s bad behaviour to bathe in baths with bowls. Busy buzzing bumble bees. A big black bug bit a big black dog on his big black nose. Barbara burned the brown bread badly. The batter with the butter is the batter that is better! #pronunciation

INFLUENCE vs IMPACT to influence (B2) - to affect or change how someone or something develops, behaves, or thinks to impact (C1) - to have an influence on something Examples: That decision influenced their life. That decision impacted their life. Both verbs don't typically require prepositions, though 'impact' can sometimes take the preposition 'on': Falling export rates have impacted (on) the country's economy quite considerably (c) Cambridge Dictionary However, when you used as nouns, both words require the preposition 'on': Marcus is a bad influence on her. The new law has had an impact on young people. #vocabulary #upper_intermediate #advanced

🌿 I don't remember the first days of March being so warm in Moscow. It almost feels like late April. It's still cold at night but the sunrises are absolutely stunning! Everything is awake. We've already swapped our shoes and coats for lighter ones, and quiet a lot of motorbikes have appeared on the roads. And also, as it often happens in spring, some people do believe it's a good time now to start something new, which I find particularly gratifying, as I have the pleasure of welcoming new students 🙌 #thoughts

🌿Spring is a season that brings many changes to the natural world. As the weather gets warmer, flowers begin to bloom, and trees start to grow new leaves. The days become longer, and the sun shines more brightly, giving everyone a sense of energy and renewal. 🏃🏻People often feel more active and excited, enjoying outdoor activities like hiking, cycling, or simply walking in the park. 🐦Birds return from their migrations, filling the air with cheerful songs. The temperatures are usually mild, neither too hot nor too cold, which makes it a perfect time to enjoy nature. 🧑🏼‍🌾Farmers plant seeds in the soil, hoping for a good harvest in the coming months. 🎉In many parts of the world, spring is also a time for festivals and celebrations. People gather with friends and family to enjoy the warm weather and each other’s company. Overall, spring is a time of growth, hope, and new beginnings. Do you feel it's time to start or try something new? #upper_intermediate
