Малая и Большая Змеиная горы располагаются недалеко от Уфы. Это коралловые острова, некогда возникшие в древнем Пермском море. Свое название они получили, скорее всего, потому что там было много змей. Всегда считалось, что эти пресмыкающиеся охраняют места, в которых находятся драгоценности. На Малой горе идет добыча строительного камня. Больше там ничего не найдено. Но меня заинтересовала легенда о происхождении этого наименования.
Башкиры очень любят сказки. Исходя из них, там жил Великий Змей. Много бед приносил он местному населению. Никто не мог с ним справиться. Однажды, в семье простых людей родился ребенок. С детства он рос крепышом. Не только силой и ловкостью славился парень, но и своей смышленостью. Вырос из мальчика настоящий богатырь, готовый постоять за свою родную землю и освободить ее от напасти. Звали его — Клянчу. Надоело ему смотреть на то, как Змей вредит его народу и решил он его извести. Понимал Клянчу, что простой силой Змея не взять. Многие погибли, полагаясь только на нее. Тут нужна была хитрость. Вспомнил он тогда, что гады погибают сразу от удара плетью, потому что пота лошадиного боятся. Собрал он со своего коня капельки, напоил свой меч и отправился воевать с врагом. Ударил он своим мечом, пот проник в рану и отравил злого Змея.

Ufa (Snake Mountain)

According to those tales, the Great Serpent lived there. He brought a lot of trouble to the local population. No one could kill him. Once, in a simple family a child was born. From childhood he grew strong. Not only was the guy famous for his strength and dexterity, but also for his smartness. A true hero grew out of the boy, ready to stand up for his native land and free it from adversity. His name was Klyanchu. He was tired of watching the Serpent harm his people and he decided to kill him. He understood Klyanchu that he could not defeat the Serpent by simple force. Many died, relying only on strength. It needed a trick. He remembered then that the bastards die immediately from a lash, because they are afraid of horse sweat. He collected droplets from his horse, watered his sword and went to fight with the enemy. He struck with his sword, sweat penetrated the wound and poisoned the evil Serpent.
