This is a jade ceremonial dagger dating back almost 3,000 years! Xuzhou, China, Western Zhou Dynasty, 1046–771 BC. Found in a Zhou Dynasty tomb. This is not a simple dagger; it was attached to a shaft like an axe. The holes in the handle (shaped like a phoenix) are for attachment. Length: 29.2 cm, width: 5 cm. @nordlicht42 <<< 📷 German bayonet for the Kar98k rifle, found at German positions in the Pskov region dating to the German retreat in 1944. The bayonet was lying in its scabbard on a dry, sandy hill and was relatively well preserved. Unfortunately, the maker’s mark on the blade was heavily damaged by corrosion and is almost illegible. All we can say with confidence is that the bayonet was produced no earlier than the late 1930s. This is indicated by its bakelite grip scales, which gradually began replacing the earlier wooden ones during this period. _____ #German #history #metaldetecting #mydigworld #bayonet #dirtfishing #hobbydetecting #ww2 #war #relichunting #Archaeology #HistoricalArtifacts #museums

A remarkable gold coin—a unique imitation of the Arabic dinar (in size, weight, and inscriptions) minted in England in the late 8th century. This unique gold coin (the only known example in the world!) belongs to King Offa of Mercia (reigned 757–796). It imitates the gold dinar of the Abbasid Caliph al-Mansur, issued in 157 AH (773–774). The coin's diameter is 20 mm and its weight is approximately 4.28 g, which closely matches the gold dinar's weight standard. Its design closely resembles the Abbasid original. Popular literature sometimes claims that Offa's coin contains "meaningless pseudo-Arabic script." However, this is definitely not the case. The text, although heavily imitated, is close enough to the original to confidently identify the original inscriptions. Obverse: In the central field: "There is no god but Allah, the One, without partner"; Around the rim: "Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, whom He sent with guidance and the religion of truth, to reveal it above all religions, even though the polytheists hate it" (quote from the Quran, 9:33). Reverse: In the center: "Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah"; Between these three lines, upside down (!), the artist wrote in Latin: OFFA REX ("King Offa"); Around the rim: "In the name of Allah. This dinar was minted in the year 157 " _____ #historia #history #metaldetecting #mydigworld #sword #dirtfishing #hobbydetecting #gold #coinhunting #relichunting #Archaeology #HistoricalArtifacts #museums

Our heroine, 48-year-old nurse Buffy Bailey (yes, her name is Buffy, and she's blonde, but she doesn't exterminate vampires) set out with her husband and a metal detector into the fields near York, having arranged with a local landowner. And after five minutes of searching, she found what other treasure hunters have been chasing for decades. At a depth of 12 centimeters lies a 600-year-old gold booklet weighing 5 grams. It measures just 1.5 cm. Journalists immediately dubbed it the "Golden Bible," but it's simply a pendant shaped like an open book with an image of two saints on the inside—Saints Leonard and Margaret, patron saints of women in childbirth. It was likely worn as an amulet for safe childbirth. Experts say the artifact is similar in style to the famous Middleham Talisman, found 55 km from here in 1985. Yes, the very same one that the Yorkshire Museum bought for £2.5 million in 1992. And they value this little thing at at least £100,000. And yes, the land where it was found once belonged to Richard III. So, theoretically, the booklet could have been hanging around the neck of his wife, Anne Neville, or another relative. The museum is currently studying the find. If they buy it, it will hang next to the talisman. If not, it will go under the hammer. In any case, our Buffy will receive half the artifact's value. _____ #historia #history #metaldetecting #mydigworld #sword #dirtfishing #hobbydetecting #gold #coinhunting #relichunting #Archaeology #HistoricalArtifacts #museums
