Улица Пречистенка (до 1658 года — Черто́льская, Покро́вская, затем Пречи́стенская, Пречи́стенка, в 1921—1990 годах — Кропо́ткинская) — улица в городе Москве, в районе Хамовники Центрального административного округа. Название дано в 1658 году по иконе Пречистой Божией Матери Смоленской, хранившейся в Новодевичьем монастыре, куда вела улица. В XVI веке по трассе улицы проходила дорога из Кремля в Новодевичий монастырь, основанный в 1524 году великим князем Василием III в память освобождения Смоленска от польского владычества. Городская застройка вдоль улицы начала формироваться в последней трети XVI века, после учреждения опричнины Иваном Грозным. Prechistenka Street (until 1658 — Chertolskaya, Pokrovskaya, then Prechistenskaya, Prechistenka; in 1921–1990 — Kropotkinskaya) is a street in the city of Moscow, in the Khamovniki district of the Central Administrative Okrug. The name was given in 1658 after the icon of the Most Pure Mother of God of Smolensk, which was kept in the Novodevichy Convent, where the street led. In the 16th century, the route of the street was the road from the Kremlin to the Novodevichy Convent, founded in 1524 by Grand Prince Vasily III in memory of the liberation of Smolensk from Polish rule. Urban development along the street began to take shape in the last third of the 16th century, after the establishment of the oprichnina by Ivan the Terrible.

Пречистенский переулок (в 1937—1993 годах — переулок Н. А. Островского) — улица в центре Москвы в Хамовниках между Пречистенкой и Большим Власьевским переулком. В переулке располагаются посольства Австрии, Дании и Марокко. Изначально переулок назывался Мёртвый. Существуют разные версии происхождения этого названия. Так, полагали, что оно дано по фамилии домовладелицы начала XVIII века Ф. Б. Мертваго. По другой версии имя переулка напоминало о смерти обитавших здесь жителей в результате эпидемии холеры в начале XIX века. Современное название переулок получил в 1993 году по близлежащей улице Пречистенка. Prechistensky Lane (in 1937–1993 — N. A. Ostrovsky Lane) is a street in the center of Moscow in Khamovniki, between Prechistenka Street and Bolshoy Vlasyevsky Lane. The embassies of Austria, Denmark, and Morocco are located on this lane. Originally, the lane was called 'Dead Lane' (Mertyvy). There are different versions of the origin of this name. Some believed it was given after the surname of an early 18th-century landowner, F. B. Mertvago. According to another version, the name of the lane commemorated the death of its residents as a result of a cholera epidemic in the early 19th century. The lane received its current name in 1993, after the nearby street Prechistenka.
