Task 2. Writing Give your opinion in no more than 250 words. Negative leadership styles - in particular autocratic and laisser-faire leadership, are considered a risk factor in relation to workplace or school space bullying. Autocratic leadership is characterized by a hierarchical structure where the leader has complete control over decision-making and often does not seek input from subordinates. On the other hand, laissez-faire leadership is when the leader is hands-off and provides little to no guidance or direction, allowing subordinates to make decisions independently. Both of these leadership styles can contribute to an environment that facilitates bullying. In an autocratic leadership setting, the lack of input from subordinates can create a power imbalance and an atmosphere of fear and intimidation. Subordinates may feel helpless and be more prone to being taken advantage of by bullies. Additionally, the autocratic leader's dominating behavior or aggressive decision-making can set an example that encourages bullying. In a laissez-faire leadership style, the lack of guidance and supervision can create a chaotic or disengaged environment where bullies can flourish. Without clear expectations and consequences, there may be no mechanisms in place to address bullying, allowing it to persist or escalate. The lack of intervention from the leader may also signal to bullies that their behavior is tolerated or acceptable. However, it is important to note that leadership styles are just one aspect of the complex issue of workplace or school bullying. Other factors such as organizational culture, individual values, and personal experiences can also play a significant role. In my professional opinion, I agree with the view that management styles mentioned above can contribute to the risk of workplace and school bullying. Effective leadership should prioritize creating a positive and inclusive environment with open communication, respect and accountability. Leaders who adopt more participative and democratic approach, involving employees and students in decision-making process and setting clear expectations are more likely to establish a culture that promotes a sense of safety and well-being.
