Horror is a very ambiguous genre. If its purpose is only to scare the reader, then the most voluminous of the books on our list would break all records for the number of lifeless bodies, whose owners were scared to death when they saw 700, or even more, pages of text. And in general, what is "scary"? What makes the blood freeze in the veins of some readers, others just seem ridiculous. Ghosts, maniacs, huge flying monsters, madness, plague, violation of the laws of physics and a creepy clown – they all got into our collection, which includes works written over the past 200 years. One author (yes, the same one) got on our list 5 (!) times and could easily take a couple more positions; another wrote only one novel in his entire long career.
