Theodore Dreiser has created a jaw-dropping book. I don’t want to just retell the story with my “wows” and “bahs” with feelings attached, so I will only describe my perception of this book. This novel is a fairy tale with miraculous deliverance in the modern school background. Author's idea seems to be "actions have consequences". If you act like a good person, life ought to be good for you; if you act like an asshole, life will show you no mercy. This is a really good book. We have both action (it's been a long time since I've read about special forces operations) and character's feelings, how they see themselves on this war. There is a funny moment, when Padawan Etain senses clone Darman as 10-year old child due to their accelerated growth. Top-notch soldiers bred for war may act as children in some aspects of civilian life unknown for them.
