На рубеже 1960-1970-х гг. знаменитый итальянский производитель мебели «Sormani», оценив рост популярности «радикального» дизайна, открыл подразделение под названием «Nucleo», которое должно было специализироваться на производстве авангардных светильников. Экспериментируя с самыми разными материалами (сталь, пластик, оргстекло, алюминий, мрамор и пр.), это подразделение подарило миру множество неожиданных изделий. Так, в 1971 г. малоизвестный итальянский архитектор Джилла Джани спроектировала для компании «Nucleo» настольный светильник «Radar» из стекла и листовой жести, материала, который дизайнеры световых приборов, как правило, обходят стороной.
P.S. Впоследствии Джани стала автором нескольких исторических книг, в том числе «Печные трубы Венеции». Совпадение? Не думаем!

Recognizing the growing popularity of “radical design” at the turn of the 1960s–1970s, the famous Italian furniture manufacturer Sormani set up a division called Nucleo, which was to specialize in producing avant-garde lighting fixtures. Experimenting with a wide range of materials such as steel, plastic, plexiglass, aluminum, marble, etc., Nucleo producted plenty of unconventional designs. In 1971, a little-known Italian architect by the name of Gjlla Giani partnered with Nucleo to design a table lamp called Radar and made of glass and pewter, a material typically overlooked by lighting designers.
P.S. Later, Giani authored several historical books, including "The Chimneys of Venice." Was it because of her attention to minor architectural details such as chimney pipes and drainpipes that she ventured into lighting design with the Radar? Or was it the other way around?
