tiger parents — a particularly strict parent who makes their child or children work very hard in school in order to achieve success (родитель-тиран):
I had always told myself I would not turn into a tiger parent like my dad before me, determined to let my daughter enjoy a more carefree childhood than I was afforded.

spitting image of — a person who looks exactly like or bears a very strong resemblance to one (копия):
Wow, you are just the spitting image of your mother! I was about to call you by her name.
on a whim — based on a sudden, impulsive urge, desire, or idea; without careful planning or because of a capricious inclination (спонтанно):
On a whim, we drove to the beach for the weekend.
to have a chip on one's shoulder — to have an attitude that leads one to become combative (eager to fight or argue) or easily angered (больное место):
Fred has such a chip on his shoulder — you never know what's going to set him off next.
wimp — a person who is not strong, brave, or confident (слабак):
I'm afraid I'm a wimp when it comes to climbing up ladders (лестница).
to whack — to hit someone or something noisily (ударить, треснуть):
He whacked the tree trunk (ствол) with his stick.
to have a field day — to have the freedom or an opportunity to do a lot of something one wants (иметь свободу действий):
The press is going to have a field day if this story gets out.
curfew — a regulation or rule requiring certain or all people to leave the streets or be at home at a prescribed hour (комендантский час):
You'll be in trouble if you get home after curfew.
moron — a very stupid person (придурок):
Some moron smashed into the back of my car yesterday.
(to be/become) the boy who cried wolf — someone who claims that something is happening when it really isn't, which results in the rejection of subsequent valid claims (единожды солгавши, кто тебе поверит):
I'm sure there's no real crisis — Janet is like the boy who cried wolf, trying to get us to do her work for her.
(P.S. The expression comes from one of Aesop's fables (Эзоповы басни), in which a young shepherd (пастух) lies about a wolf threatening his flock (стадо) so many times that people do not believe him when he and his flock are in legitimate (реальный) danger)
