The Motorman is an essential part of the engineering department, working closely with the Engineer or the Chief Engineer to ensure that all mechanical systems are functioning at their best.
Key responsibilities include:
• Machinery Maintenance: Regularly inspecting, maintaining, and repairing the engines, generators, and other mechanical systems.
• Operation of Equipment: Assisting in the operation and monitoring of engines and mechanical systems during voyages, sounding tanks, void spaces and cofferdams
• Troubleshooting and Repairs: Diagnosing and fixing any mechanical issues that arise, ensuring the vessel remains fully operational.
• Familiarization with all kinds of products such as paints, thinners, cleaning chemicals and grease regarding safety and health hazards.
• Safety and Compliance: Ensuring all operations adhere to maritime safety standards and participating in safety drills.
• Supporting the Engineering Team: Assisting the Engineer or Chief Engineer with various tasks, including general maintenance and occasional assistance with other duties on board.
• Welding works under the supervision
• Familiarization with procedures and checklists regarding special and critical operations.
