Exercise 1. Complete each sentence using the “anything but” construction with a suitable adjective or noun.
1. After walking 20 km, I was tired, hungry, and anything but _______.
2. The children covered in mud after playing football were anything but _______.
3. His explanation was so confusing, it was anything but _______.
4. For a five-star hotel, the service was anything but _______.
5. She tried to bake a cake, but the result was anything but _______ .
Exercise 2. Translate the sentences into English using the “anything but” construction.
1. Эта задача была совсем не простой. (This task was not simple at all.)
2. Его поведение на собрании было далеко не профессиональным. (His behavior at the meeting was far from professional.)
3. Этот старый джип - всё что угодно, но только не роскошная машина. (This old jeep is anything but a luxury car.)
4. Фильм ужасов оказался совсем не страшным. (The horror movie turned out to be not scary at all.)
5. Её тон голоса был никак не дружелюбным. (The tone of her voice was in no way friendly.)

Exercise 4. Write 3 sentences about yourself or people you know, using “anything but + an adjective” and “anything but + a noun”.
Exercise 5. Read the short dialogues. Complete the second speaker's response using the “anything but” construction to contradict the first speaker's opinion.
1. A: The exam was quite easy, wasn't it?
B: Easy? _________________________! I found it extremely difficult.
2. A: Your new neighbour seems like a very friendly person.
B: Friendly? _______________________. He hasn't even said "hello" to us.
3. A: The conference room looked very modern and well-equipped.
B: Well-equipped? ______________________. The projector didn't even work.
