This research explores the implementation and impact of a character-oriented curriculum to instill positive values in learning. The main goal is to understand how this program is implemented in a modern educational environment and how it affects the formation of an individual's personality as well as the overall quality of education. Research methods include data collection through observation, interviews and document analysis, with a focus on the experiences of educators, students and related communities. The results of this research highlight the importance of collaboration between all stakeholders in developing effective characteristics-based programs. The research results also show that a character-based curriculum can play an important role in shaping students' positive attitudes, values and behavior. The meaning of this research is that integrating character values into the curriculum can improve students' learning experiences and make a significant contribution to the formation of responsible and ethical individuals. This research provides important insights for comprehensive and sustainable educational development, strengthening the link between academic learning and character formation.
In this ever-developing era, education not only aims to provide academic knowledge to students, but also to shape their character. Character education is increasingly recognized as an important part of a comprehensive learning process. In this context, a character-oriented curriculum emerges as an effective approach to instill positive values in learning.
The character-oriented curriculum places a focus on developing and strengthening positive moral, ethical and value aspects in students (Iswatiningsih, 2019). This aims to help students cultivate good attitudes and behavior, as well as develop strong and responsible personalities.
Character education not only talks about teaching students what is right and what is wrong, but also about helping them understand why these values are important in everyday life (Kamaruddin, et al, 2023). In a character-oriented curriculum, values such as integrity, honesty, cooperation, responsibility and empathy are emphasized and integrated into learning in all subjects (Mustoip, 2023).
In the learning context, a character-oriented curriculum has several significant advantages (Farid, 2023). First, by instilling values positive value, students will be better able to face challenges and make good decisions in their lives. They will have a strong moral foundation to overcome problems they may face in the future. Second, a character-oriented curriculum helps create a positive learning climate at school. By prioritizing positive values, students will learn to respect each other, appreciate and cooperate with others. This creates an inclusive and supportive environment, where every student feels welcome and valued. Third, this approach also helps students develop strong social skills. They learn to communicate effectively, resolve conflicts tactfully, and work in teams. These social skills are very important in everyday life and will help students become successful individuals in the real world.
However, implementing a character-oriented curriculum can also face challenges. One of the challenges is ensuring consistency in this approach across all subjects and across the school. Apart from that, the role of teachers in instilling character values is also very important. Teachers must have a deep understanding of these values and be able to practice them in daily learning.
This research is qualitative research with a literature study approach. Data collection was carried out by conducting a literature search using a database online, Google Scholar, PubMed, and trusted scientific journal databases. Limit the literature search to a certain time period to ensure the latest information updates. Apply relevant inclusion and exclusion criteria to select literature appropriate to the research objectives. Read abstracts and summaries of related literature to evaluate the relevance and quality of the information obtained. Data analysis was carried out by analyzing the collected literature by reading, identifying and recording relevant information according to the research objectives. Organizing and compiling findings from analyzed literature. Integrates findings from various literature sources to provide a comprehensive understanding of character-oriented curriculum and positive values in learning.
A character-oriented curriculum is an approach that places a focus on developing moral, ethical and positive values in students (Mustoip, 2023). This concept recognizes that education is not only limited to transferring academic knowledge, but also aims to form strong and responsible student personalities. The main aim of this curriculum is to help students cultivate good attitudes and behavior, as well as develop strong and responsible personalities. The essence of a character-oriented curriculum is the cultivation of positive values that underlie students' actions and attitudes. These values include integrity, honesty, cooperation, responsibility, empathy, discipline, perseverance, respect, and other moral values (Lase, et al, 2022). This curriculum encourages students to understand and apply these values in everyday life, both inside and outside the classroom.
A character-oriented curriculum is not limited to one specific subject or activity. Character values must be integrated thoroughly in all subjects and aspects of school life. This ensures that students are exposed to consistency of values character that is instilled throughout the school environment. Character education is not something that is only done in one particular activity or event. This should be an ongoing process, occurring all the time both inside and outside the classroom (Lickona, 2022). Teachers and school staff must play an active role in strengthening character values through teaching, guidance and examples given to students.
The character-oriented curriculum emphasizes the application of character values in real life situations. Students must be given the opportunity to face challenges, make decisions, and interact with other people based on the character values they have learned. Through practical experience, students can see the relevance and benefits of character values in everyday life (Hamzah, et al, 2022).
Active and collaborative learning is an effective approach in developing character values (Saputra, et al, 2023). Through discussions, role plays, group projects, and other practical activities, students can apply character values in real contexts. Through active interaction, students can also learn from the experiences and perspectives of their classmates. Students must be actively involved in the process of cultivating character values. They must be given the opportunity to reflect on and internalize these values through self-reflection, discussion, and activities that require moral decision making. It helps students understand and adopt character values as an integral part of who
they are. Through the concept of a character-oriented curriculum, schools can create a positive learning environment and support overall student development. By instilling strong character values, students will have a solid moral foundation to face future challenges and become individuals with integrity, responsibility and care for others.
Instilling positive values in learning has significant benefits for student development. Positive values help students face challenges and make good decisions in their lives (Cahyaningrum, et al, 2017). The character-oriented curriculum creates a positive learning climate at school, where students respect each other and cooperate with others (Sulastri, et al, 2022). Students who have positive values will also develop strong social skills, such as effective communication and the ability to resolve conflict.
Positive values play a very important role in an effective and sustainable learning process. This not only applies to students, but also to educators, parents and society at large. High motivation is part of positive values such as self-confidence, perseverance and positive enthusiasm which can be the main driver in increasing students' learning motivation (Sartono & Romli, 2019). When students feel supported and valued, they are more likely to actively participate inlearning and achieving their maximum potential.
In terms of establishing a safe learning environment, it is part of the positive values such as cooperation, tolerance, and respect for differences promoted in the learning environment, students feel more comfortable to share ideas, ask questions, and interact with fellow students and educators (Mataputun, 2018). This creates an inclusive and supportive learning environment, which is essential for students' holistic development. Furthermore, the development of social and emotional skills is also part. Positive values help students develop social and emotional skills that are crucial for success in everyday life. For example, the ability to empathize, work together in teams, and resolve conflicts peacefully are skills that are supported by positive values and can help students in various life contexts.
Increased student academic performance can be seen when students feel supported, appreciated, and motivated, they tend to show improvements in academic performance (Jannah, 2023). Greater engagement in learning, better quality of work, and a more positive attitude towards learning challenges are direct results of the formation of positive values (Susilo & Sarkowi, 2018). Education is not only about the acquisition of knowledge, but also about the formation of good character and ethics. Positive values such as integrity, honesty, and responsibility form an important moral basis for students' personal development (Natalia & Saingo, 2023).
When these values are emphasized in the learning context, students learn to become responsible individuals who care about society. Acceptance and reinforcement of positive values helps students build a positive self-image. This is important in forming students' self-confidence and belief in their abilities to overcome challenges and achieve their goals in life. Positive values play a crucial role in effective learning and the formation of quality individuals. Therefore, it is important for educators, parents, and society at large to work together to promote and support these values in every aspect of learning and teaching.
A character-oriented curriculum is a learning approach that emphasizes the development of moral, ethical and positive personality values in students as an integral part of the educational process. It is important to ensure consistency in the implementation of a character-oriented curriculum in all subjects and across schools. Teachers have a key role in instilling character values through example, active learning, and reflection (Sulastri, et al, 2022). Learning must be designed in such a way that students can try and apply positive values in real situations. The involvement of parents and other stakeholders is also important in supporting the implementation of a character-oriented curriculum.
Implementing a character-oriented curriculum requires careful planning and integrated (Prastowo, 2017). This involves identifying the character values to be promoted, developing appropriate learning strategies, and integrating the character values into the overall structure and content of the curriculum. Teachers are the main agents in implementing a character-oriented curriculum (Rahmawati, et al, 2023). Therefore, teacher training and provision is very important to understand the concepts and learning methods related to character values, as well as how to apply them effectively in the classroom.
Character values must be integrated in all aspects of learning, including lesson materials, class activities, evaluations, and interactions between teachers and students (Rahman & Wassalwa, 2019). Teachers need to create relevant and meaningful opportunities for students to practice and internalize character values in real-life contexts. Implementation of a character-oriented curriculum often involves an experience-based approach, where students are invited to experience and experience character values directly through various practical activities, simulations, and collaborative projects. This approach helps students to understand these values in a more in-depth and relevant way. Teachers and school staff have an important role as role models in implementing character values. Through their daily behavior, they can be strong examples for students in practicing character values in real life. Therefore, it is important to ensure consistency between what is taught and how it is applied in practice.
Implementation of a character-oriented curriculum requires ongoing evaluation and monitoring of student progress in understanding and internalizing character values. This can be done through various evaluation methods, such as classroom observations, student reflections, and performance assessments. Parents and the community also have an important role in supporting the implementation of a character-oriented curriculum. Through open communication and collaboration with schools, they can help strengthen the character values promoted in the learning environment and at home.
A character-oriented curriculum is an educational approach that aims to develop positive characters in students, such as integrity, responsibility, cooperation, empathy.
Implementing a character-oriented curriculum involves instilling positive values in learning, both explicitly and implicitly. Positive values instilled through a character-oriented curriculum can help students develop social, moral and ethical skills that are important in everyday life. Learning strategies used in the character-oriented curriculum include the use of role models, discussion of values, personal reflection, and real experiences.
A character-oriented curriculum can provide long-term benefits for students, including improved character qualities, better social relationships, and readiness to face life's challenges. The importance of collaboration between teachers, parents and school officials in implementing a character-oriented curriculum to ensure consistency and success of the program. Continuous efforts are needed to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of a character-oriented curriculum in instilling positive values in learning.
