В аэропорту
Проверьте визовые требования для своей страны. В моём случае (Россия, 2025) нужно было заполнить форму ETA до прилёта. В тот же день я получила ответ на email с подтверждением ETA. Говорят, что его нужно распечатать. Я этого не сделала — у меня был скриншот на iPad, и его даже не проверили. Также у меня были скриншоты обратного билета и баланса банковского счёта — их тоже не проверяли (но, возможно, могут).
Было легко снять деньги в банкомате в зоне прилёта (карта UnionPay, выпущенная в Китае). Также было легко найти мобильного оператора. Потом я нашла автобус до своего хостела (общественный транспорт отображается в Google Maps).
Вылет
Контроль безопасности находится не перед паспортным контролем, а прямо перед выходами на посадку. Поэтому обязательно выпейте все жидкости после прохождения паспортного контроля и до досмотра у выхода.
Коломбо (Colombo)
Я жила в районе Colombo 1.
Пожалуйста, будьте осторожны с мошенниками — дружелюбными мужчинами, которые начинают разговор. Они говорят, что работают в C1 Colombo Fort (один из популярных хостелов), что где-то там проходит большой фестиваль, или что они идут туда же, куда и вы. Иногда говорят, что сейчас редкая скидка на выставке драгоценных камней. Или предлагают дешёвые тук-туки. Будьте очень осторожны со всеми этими «дружелюбными» людьми. Они могут говорить, что работают в немецком посольстве или в школе. Обычно работают по двое или по трое. Просто будьте внимательны.
Я пользовалась местным такси-приложением PickMe. Там можно выбрать оплату наличными после поездки.
Что посмотреть
По моему мнению, Коломбо - одно из тех мест, где список «что посмотреть» есть, но ничего из этого не является обязательным к посещению.
* Marina Promenade — нормально
* Colombo National Museum — мне довольно понравился этот исторический музей
* Gangaramaya Temple — небольшой и немного хаотичный, загромождённый разными вещами. Было интересно увидеть «страдающего» Будду (очень худое изображение после многих лет медитации)
* Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque — красивая снаружи. Внутрь я не заходила, хотя для иностранцев есть отдельный вход
* Район Pettah, Old Town Hall Market, Pettah Market — безумно загруженный район, где всё крутится вокруг реальной жизни и почти не имеет отношения к туристам. Интересно посмотреть, но очень утомительно. Я старалась быть уважительной, поэтому не делала фото
* Sri Kailawasanatan Swami Temple — красивая снаружи, внутри ничего особенного. При выходе могут попросить деньги (думаю, это не официальный билет, а просто кто-то зарабатывает)
* Colombo Lighthouse и Sambodhi Pagoda Temple — совсем не обязательно туда ходить, особенно ночью
* Colombo Port City Foot Bridge — приятно. Я была там ночью, когда мост был подсвечен. Также оттуда красивый вид на огни города. Говорят, туда приходят посмотреть на закат
Кафе и рестораны
Мне было очень трудно найти нормальный завтрак до 10 утра — все рестораны были закрыты. Мне повезло зайти в кафе при отеле.
T-Lounge by Dilmah — это сеть чайных, где можно попробовать их продукцию. Настоятельно рекомендую.
В целом мне совсем не понравилось быть в Коломбо. Надеюсь, у вас будет другой опыт.
Хиккадува (Hikkaduwa)
Я жила в Utopia Villas, и это было очень хорошо. Недорого, в пешей доступности от пляжа, красивый сад, хорошая терраса, удобная кровать. Я ужинала в отеле, и порции были для меня очень большими.
Унаватуна (Unawatuna)
Пляж Unawatuna Beach хорошо подходит для купания — волны там не такие сильные. Рядом много кафе и ресторанов. Можно бронировать экскурсии. Принимают онлайн-переводы из российского банка.
Пляжи Dalawella Beach и Turtle Beach
На входе на Dalawella Beach местные пытаются брать плату за вход. Я почти уверена, что это незаконно. В Google Maps это место также отмечено как мошенники на парковке, scam parking. Я отказалась платить и нашла бесплатный вход чуть дальше. Он находится слева от Turtle Residence and Restaurant и отмечен как “Public access to Turtle Beach” в Google Maps.
Frog Rock и Playa Magica
К этому месту есть общественный доступ справа от Shanti Beach Resort.
Пляж Коггала (Koggala Beach) и рыбаки на сваях
Я была там ближе к полудню. Сначала рыбаков не было. Потом они появились. Через полчаса снова исчезли. Если вы хотите сфотографировать рыбаков вблизи, нужно заплатить большие деньги. У них даже напечатан баннер с ценой (5000 рупий). Мне удалось сфотографировать их издалека, из кустов, поэтому с меня ничего не взяли. Возможно, настоящая рыбалка бывает рано утром и на закате, не уверена, но то, что происходило днём, было точно просто шоу для туристов.
На пляже есть места, где можно плавать. Мне было немного некомфортно в этом районе, потому что ко мне постоянно подходили люди, пытаясь что-то продать, предложить услуги или фотографию с рыбаками. Но в любом случае было интересно увидеть, что такой способ рыбалки вообще существует где-то в мире.
Йога в Унаватуне (Unawatuna)
Есть отличное место с разовыми занятиями — Sri Yoga Shala.
У них же есть ресторан. Еще есть жилье, но немного дорогое. Можно просто жить поблизости (я останавливалась в Southern Grace).
Yoga Dome at Secret Garden
Это рядом с Unawatuna Beach. Я там не была — сходите сами туда на йогу.
Где остановиться рядом с Dalawella Beach
Я жила в Southern Grace Hotel. Там был потрясающий вид на поля. Можно напрямую написать менеджеру в WhatsApp:

Мирисса (Mirissa)
Мне очень понравился этот район. Пляж длинный и чистый. Я боюсь плавать там, где не могу достать ногами до дна, поэтому в основном просто гуляла и отдыхала. Но я прошла дальше и нашла Turtle Beach (ориентир — Turtle Bay Beach Restaurant). Там можно плавать без сильных волн.
Я видела несколько мест с йогой, но сама студии не посещала. Видела много рекламы Rukshan Yoga Studio.

Китовые сафари в Мириссе (Mirissa)
Все говорят, что Мирисса — лучшее место для наблюдения за китами. На пляже и в отеле вам будут предлагать туры. Сравнивайте цены перед оплатой. И нет никакой гарантии, что вы действительно увидите китов. Я не увидела. Это было в начале декабря. Мне сказали, что накануне китов видели (возможно, это была ложь?). Но животные есть животные — они не знают, что их продают, правда?
Галле (Galle)
Галле — это прибрежный город на юге Шри-Ланки, знаменитый своим старым фортом у моря. В форте тихие улочки, маленькие кафе, магазины и маяк. Я приехала туда на день и осталась на ночь. Было приятно побыть в чистом месте с большим количеством кафе. Я обошла все улицы старого форта. Он небольшой, и в этом его очарование. Рядом с маяком есть маленький пляж, но там очень много мусора.
Утром местные жители бегают вокруг форта. Приятно присоединиться к ним или просто прогуляться.
Я нашла удивительный бутик Tallentire House. Они делают свой собственный домашний декор и одежду из ткани, которую производят сами. Я купила потрясающее кимоно с вручную нанесённым рисунком птицы. Очень рекомендую, но продукция тут чуть дороже обычного

Sri Lanka – Useful Information
At the Airport
Check the visa requirements for your country. As for me (Russia, 2025), I had to fill out the ETA form before arrival. Later the same day, I received a reply to my email with the ETA approval notice. They say you have to print that notice. I didn’t—I had a screenshot on my iPad, and they didn’t even check it. I also had screenshots of my return flight and my bank account balance; they didn’t check any of that either (but they might).
It was easy to withdraw money from an ATM in the arrival hall (Chinese UnionPay card). It was also easy to find a mobile operator. Then I found my bus to my hostel (public transport is shown on Google Maps).
Departures
The security check is not before passport control but right before the gates. So make sure you consume your liquids after you pass passport control and before the gate security check.
Colombo
I stayed in the area called Colombo 1.
Please be aware of scammers—friendly men who start talking to you. They say they work at C1 Colombo Fort (one of the major hostels), that there is a big festival over there, or that they are going exactly where you were planning to go. Or they say there is a rare discount at the gems exhibition. Or they offer cheap tuk-tuks. Please be careful with all these friendly men. They may say they work at the German embassy or at a school. They work in twos or threes. Just be careful.
I used the local taxi app called PickMe. There you can choose to pay in cash after the ride.
What to See
In my opinion, this is one of those places with a “to see” list where none of the sights is a must-see.
* Marina Promenade – okay
* Colombo National Museum – I quite liked this historical museum
* Gangaramaya Temple – small and a bit chaotic, cluttered with lots of different things. It was interesting to see the suffering Buddha (the skinny image of him after many years of meditation)
* Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque – beautiful from the outside. I didn’t go inside, though there was a separate entrance for foreigners
* Pettah area, Old Town Hall Market, Pettah Market – a crazily busy area where everything revolves around real life and has nothing to do with tourists. Interesting to see but overwhelming. I tried to be respectful, so I didn’t take any photos
* Sri Kailawasanatan Swami Temple – beautiful from the outside, nothing special on the inside. If you enter, they might ask for money upon exit (I think it’s not an official ticket fee; someone just makes money)
* Colombo Lighthouse and Sambodhi Pagoda Temple – really not a must-visit, especially at night
* Colombo Port City Foot Bridge – nice. I was there at night when it was lit up. You could also see the city lights. I heard people go there to see the sunset
Cafés and Restaurants
I found it very difficult to have a decent breakfast before 10 a.m.; all the restaurants were closed. I was lucky to walk into a hotel café.
T-Lounge by Dilmah is a chain tea shop where you can try their teas. Highly recommended.
Overall, I really didn’t like being in Colombo. I hope you’ll have a different experience.
Hikkaduwa
I stayed at Utopia Villas, and it was great. Affordable, within walking distance of the beach, nice garden, nice terrace, nice bed. I ate dinner at the hotel, and the portions were very big for me.
Unawatuna
Unawatuna Beach is good for swimming; the waves are not as harsh. There are lots of cafés and restaurants nearby. You can book some tours too. As for the tours, they accept online transfers from a Russian bank.
Dalawella Beach and Turtle Beach
By the entrance to Dalawella Beach, there will be locals who try to charge an entrance fee. I’m pretty sure it’s not legal. It’s also marked as scam parking on google maps. I refused to pay and found a free entrance instead, just a bit further away. It’s to the left of Turtle Residence and Restaurant, marked as “Public access to Turtle Beach” on Google Maps.
The Frog Rock and Playa Magica
There is public access to this place to the right of Shanti Beach Resort.
Koggala Beach and Stilt Fishermen
I was there closer to midday. First, there were no fishermen. Then they appeared. Half an hour later, they were gone. If you want to take photos of the fishermen from close up, you have to pay a lot of money. They have even printed a banner saying that (5,000 rupees). I was able to photograph them from afar, from the bushes, so nobody charged me. There might be real fishing early in the morning and at sunset, not sure, but what they did during the day was definitely just a show for tourists.
There are some spots where you can swim at the beach too. I was a bit uncomfortable in that area because there were so many people coming up to me trying to sell things, services, or offering a photo with the fishermen. But anyway, it was nice to see that such a way of fishing exists somewhere in the world.
Yoga in Unawatuna
There is a great yoga place with drop-in classes called Sri Yoga Shala.
You can also have your meals there. They also have accommodation. If it’s too expensive, you can choose some nearby places (I was at Southern Grace)
Yoga Dome at Secret Garden
It’s near Unawatuna Beach. I haven’t been there—try it out.
Where to Stay Near Dalawella Beach
I stayed at Southern Grace Hotel. It had an amazing view overlooking the fields. You can talk directly to the manager on WhatsApp:

Mirissa
I really liked this area. The beach is long and clean. I’m scared of swimming where I can’t touch the sea bottom with my feet, so I only walked and chilled there. But I walked further to find Turtle Beach (look for Turtle Bay Beach Restaurant as a reference). There I could swim without high waves.
I found some places that offer yoga too, but I didn’t try any studios myself. I found lots of adverts for Rukshan Yoga Studio.

Whale Watching in Mirissa
Everyone says Mirissa is the place to go whale watching. At the beach and at your hotel, you might be offered a tour. Compare the prices before paying. And there is no guarantee that you will actually see whales. I didn’t. It was the beginning of December. They told me the day before they had seen the whales (could have been a lie?). Well, animals are animals—they have no idea that they are part of the deal, right?
Galle
Galle is a coastal city in southern Sri Lanka, famous for its old fort by the sea. The fort has quiet streets, small cafés, shops, and a lighthouse. I went there for a day and stayed overnight. It was nice to be in a neat place with lots of cafés. I walked every street of the old fort. It’s not very big, and that’s its charm. There is a small beach near the lighthouse, but there is a lot of trash there.
In the morning, local people jog around the fort. It’s nice to join them or simply walk around.
I found an amazing boutique called Tallentire House. They make their own home décor and clothing from fabric that they produce themselves. I bought an amazing kimono with a hand-stamped bird pattern. Highly recommended, but a bit pricey.
