February 20, 2022 by Beth Hall When AP Lang students begin writing timed essays, they often wonder how to write a rhetorical analysis introduction quickly. After all, 40 minutes is not much time to write an essay. Writing an introductory paragraph for a rhetorical analysis essay can be intimidating. So, how can you impress your AP reader from the very start? Tip #1: Don’t get stuck with writer’s block. If you are struggling with how to start your essay and introduction, skip it (for now). Jump down a few lines and begin by writing your defensible thesis statement. After you write your thesis, move onto the first body paragraph. Why? The majority of the points in the AP Lang rubric come from the body paragraphs. Therefore, you don’t want to waste precious time on the introduction as you try to get past writer’s block.
