The most common gear related problems are: burst tire, deflated tire, overheated or faulty brakes, unlocked gear, failure to retract or extend the landing gear. Depending on the stage of flight and nature of the problem the pilot might decide to reject take-off, go around, return to the aerodrome of departure, make a low pass or hold in the holding area. In the worst case scenario the only option remaining is to make a belly landing. During belly landing, very often the airplane receives severe damage. In case of belly landing the aircraft may flip over, break into parts, and catch fire or overrun the runway and crash into obstacles. It requires high professional skills of pilots. Still, belly landings are one of the most common types of aircraft incidents, and are usually not fatal.
