Polenov – Resurrection of Jairus’ Daughter, 1871
In the painting, we can see a Bible story of resurrection of Jairus’ daughter. In the painting there is a 12-year-old girl, who has died; Jesus, who is holding her lifeless arm; the girl’s mother, gazing fixedly at her daughter and imploring her to resurrect; and four men, standing at a distance. On the grey wall behind Jesus, outlining his contours, the light is shining, as though it is demonstrating the power of this man, and he is resurrecting the girl so simply, as if it is possible to do it with an easy wave of the hand.
