According to Cini (2017), there are seven areas of teacher responsibility in classroom management:

  1. Classroom Design
  2. Rules
  3. Discipline
  4. Scheduling
  5. Organization
  6. Instructional Technique
  7. Communication

Of the seven areas of responsibility in classroom management, there are three the most crucial for a new teacher to master. Based on research from different resources and privat experience, it is not complicated to examine why these three areas are most important for maintaining classroom management. For each of the three areas, there are the challenges a new teacher may face when attempting to master them.

Communication

The most critical part of classroom management is communication. Clear and continuous channels of communication with your administration, coworkers, students, and parents are crucial. You will lose peer respect, student attention, and parental cooperation if you do not have it. Be receptive to other people's worries. Be adaptable and accommodating to legitimate demands. Cini (2017)

Good communication is key to the success of any project, and the importance of communication cannot be sufficiently emphasized in a classroom scenario. Working with 30 or more students in a group can be challenging and you can only achieve this by establishing and encouraging the use of communication channels. You have to remember that this cannot be achieved in one day; You have to make an ongoing effort. Here are some steps you can take in the right direction -

  1. Clearly state the rules in the classroom at the beginning of the school year
  2. Set aside time for discussions other than scientific
  3. Listen to a child when she wants to share something
  4. Be honest about your relationship with the class as a whole
  5. Never show favouritism; it prevents children from communicating

Always display positivity

The positive attitude of the teacher sends positive signals to students that something good and positive needs to happen in the classroom. This attracts their attention and sets the tone for a thriving learning environment. Here are some things that show your positivity -

  • Welcome happily as you enter the classroom
  • Maintain vertical posture
  • Maintain eye contact
  • Focus on positive student behavior
  • Meet each student in person
  • Encourage students to participate in the classroom
  • Give students a chance
  • Discipline

The implications of classroom rules must be clear. From the first day of school, students will put each teacher's limitations to the test. Be forceful, fair, and consistent in your approach. Begin by issuing a warning to a pupil and confirming their understanding of the classroom rules. Continued disturbance should be followed up with demerits, detention, or other formal reprimands. Never strike, harass, humiliate, or shout at pupils; it is ineffective, unprofessional, and frequently unlawful. Cini (2017)

Each school has people like counselors responsible for discipline, those responsible for study, class representatives, etc., who you can refer to depending on the type of problem. (Common cooperation standards in Skyeng) The two most common scenarios in which you may need this are:

1 Poor academic performance - If a student behaves consistently below academic performance, despite additional support at your level, you should report it to others. Medical classes can be organized for all such students.

2 Repeated acts of indiscipline - if a student breaks the rules over and over again, despite oral reminders, advice and punishment, you must report it to the class teacher and responsible discipline.

Whenever you plan to escalate the problem, be prepared with all the details. Write down the problem that occurred, the date the problem occurred, how the action affected other students, and what corrective action you took. Recording will clarify the situation in your mind, others will better understand the situation, and a decision can be quickly made. Colette Bennett (2018)

Discipline compliance

Installing protocols for class behavior is not enough. You have to make sure these rules are followed as well. Here are some proposed measures to ensure discipline in the classroom.

Ask the class to collectively decide on punishments for each act of indiscipline. Place them in place by the end of the first week of school.

Ask one student to talk about any one rule within 5 minutes so that they are always in everyone's memory.

Assign students to receive feedback on class behavior in your absence.

If the child violated the rules or did not comply with the rules, impose an appropriate non-corporal punishment.

Ask the class to collectively decide on punishments for each act of indiscipline. Place them in place by the end of the first week of school. Colette Bennett (2018)

Instructional Technique

Teachers can present knowledge how they think fit, even if you don't have control over the substance of your program. It's critical to adapt your teaching style to the grade level, topic area, and pupils. In an 8th grade school, a hands-on presentation of electricity will keep students engaged, but in a 3rd grade classroom, it may become chaotic. Make your classes more varied in terms of style and intensity. Following up on the lecture-style sessions, there will be some informal group activities. For fresh lesson ideas, talk to your coworkers. Learn about the learning styles of each of your students. (Can you tell me about their learning curve? What is the greatest way for them to learn? Is it possible for them to work as a group?) These insights are critical when it comes to matching your teaching approach to the requirements of your pupils. Cini (2017)

Information processing, behavioral, social interaction, and personal are the four categories. Several tactics can be utilized within each model. A teacher's approach to achieving learning objectives is determined by his or her strategies. The objective of such approaches is to determine the actions of teachers and pupils, which is an essential component of teaching and learning. Many motivating characteristics of learners, such as a predisposition to think critically, are influenced by appropriate teaching strategies. Lectures, cooperative learning, brainstorming, role-playing, videotapes, slides, direct teaching, and digital presentations are all examples of approaches that may be employed in a lesson plan.
