Fictitious Peer Assessment Criteria (for practicing)

-Only one of these two components were provided= 5 points
-Did not address this part of the assignment = 0 points
Use the feedback box to provide your peer with the reason you did or did not give
full credit for this element.
Weight: 1.00
Grade (max 10 points): 7
Feedback:
The name of the international NGO was clearly provided - “Amnesty International.” Good job!
The mission was not clearly stated, but was discussed throughout the assignment. However, this could have been clearer - in the future, I suggest explicitly addressing each assignment requirement with at least a full sentence. Something like “Amnesty International’s mission is….” would have been very helpful!
Element 2:
Did this assignment summarize, in the student’s own words, some of the recent work to advocate for and protect the human rights of a particular group or groups of people?
-This was thoroughly described and answered = 10 points
-Addressed most of the question, but could have been more detailed and elaborated
further = 7 points
-The answer was very brief and in need of much further explanation= 4 points
-Did not address this part of the assignment = 0 points

Weight: 1.00
Grade (max 10 points): 7
Feedback:
This essay did a good job summarizing the work Amnesty International has done. It mentioned in particular protecting civilians in uprisings in Syria and some Arab states as well as Africa. Some aspects could have been clearer though - I would have liked to hear more about what they are actually doing. What does it mean to “highlight” abuses? With a little more detail this section would have been great!
Element 3:
Did the assignment address the reasons why this human rights work was necessary, as well as any challenges that arose in providing this work?
-This was thoroughly described and answered = 10 points
-Addressed most of the question, but could have been more detailed and elaborated
further = 7 points
-The answer was very brief and in need of much further explanation= 4 points
-Did not address this part of the assignment = 0 points

Weight: 1.00
Grade (max 10 points): 10
Feedback:
The essay addressed the question so I am giving full points, but I would have liked to see more detail here. The description of the challenge of scarce resources and the threat of working for Amnesty International is well done, although very brief. The rationale for why the work is necessary is not as clearly stated but the essay does do a great job underscoring the importance of saving human lives.
Element 4:
Did the paper meet the length requirements of at least 500 words?
-The assignment was at least 500 words in length and included a word-count= 10 points
-The assignment was at least 500 words in length and but did not include a word-count=
8 points
-The assignment was less than 500 words in length, but more than 400 words in length
and included a word-count= 7 points
-The assignment was less than 500 words in length, but more than 400 words in length and but did not include a word-count = 6 points
- The assignment was less than 400 words in length, but more than 300 words in length and included a word-count= 5 points
- The assignment was less than 400 words in length, but more than 300 words in length and did not include a word-count= 4 points
- The assignment was less than 300 words in length, but more than 200 words in length and included a word-count= 3 points
- The assignment was less than 300 words in length, but more than 200 words in length and did not include a word-count= 2 points
-The assignment was 200 or fewer words in length = 0 points

Grade (max 10 points): 8
Feedback:
The paper meets the target word-count of over 500 words. However, the word count was missing so I can’t mark full credit here.

Grade (max 10 points): 5
Feedback:
There were several grammatical errors in the paper (verb tense changes that made things a bit confusing, such as past tense and present tense in the same section on Syria, and “international” in Amnesty International not being capitalized consistently). However, there were no major errors that made the essay hard to understand - just minor errors. These kinds of errors are easy to make, unfortunately! Have you looked into Grammarly? It’s a good resource for catching these kinds of minor things.

General comment:
Overall this is an interesting essay on Amnesty International and I can tell that there was a lot of work put into it! The essay provided a fairly clear look at why we need Amnesty International and the places where the organization works.
While the essay is a good look at Amnesty International, it is slightly off from what the assignment is looking for. In the future, it might help to read the assignment directions and make a list of assignment requirements to make sure you don’t miss any - that could have helped in remembering to list the organization’s mission or describe more clearly what work Amnesty International actually does. I really liked your section on challenges though - I wouldn’t have thought about how dangerous it is to work for this kind of organization.
