1. Stock – a share that somebody has bought in a company or business (биржа, акция, запас)

2. Advise against something - to tell somebody what you think they should not do in a particular situation
Examples: Doctors advise against alcohol consumption for hemorrhoids, especially during exacerbations and treatment. They advised against the use of military force.

6. Thingy - used to refer to a person or thing whose name you do not know or have forgotten, or which you do not want to mention (штуковина)
Examples: Look at that woman over there—the one with the straw hat with the pink thingy around it.
7. Junk bonds - a type of bond that pays a high rate of interest because there is a lot of risk involved, often used to raise money quickly in order to buy the shares of another company ("мусорные" или "бросовые" облигации)
Examples: Among the most tax-inefficient investments are junk bonds.
8. Be cut out for something | be cut out to be something - (informal) to have the qualities and abilities needed for something (иметь хорошую репутацию)
Examples: He's not cut out for teaching.
9. Work the way around - to find a solution to a problem or navigate a problem by going around it or finding an alternative route.
Examples: I couldn't find a direct flight, so I had to work my way around it and take a connecting flight instead.
10. Admission of something /an admission of guilt/failure/defeat - a statement in which somebody admits that something is true, especially something wrong or bad that they have done (признание)
Examples: Admission of fault would shatter that image they've carefully cultivated.
11. Leer (at somebody) - to look or smile at somebody in an unpleasant way that shows an evil or sexual interest in them (пялиться)
Examples: All the guys leered at her as she passed by.

For stocks, one point equals one dollar. So, when you hear that a stock has lost or gained X number of points, it is the same as saying the stock has lost or gained X number of dollars. Although one point always equals one dollar, the percentage value of a one-point movement can be different for two companies. Points refer only to the dollar amount that has changed, not the percentage. Two stocks can lose the same number of points but very different percentages.
