Привет! Сегодня смотрим фильм Оставленные (The Holdovers, 2023). Декабрь 1970 года. В престижной закрытой школе для мальчиков Бартон остаются на рождественские каникулы несколько учеников. Присматривать за ними назначен ненавистный учитель истории мистер Ханэм — принципиальный приверженец строгих педагогических методов. Фильм очень атмосферный, теплый и душевный. А еще там сложный богатый английский. 1). Baseless accusation - when you say something or charge without proof (беспочвенное обвинение).
Examples:

2). Indulge – to allow yourself to have or do something that you like, especially something that is considered bad for you (потакать, потворствовать).

8). Scuttle - scuttle something to sink a ship deliberately by making holes in the side or bottom of it (затопить).

10). Vicissitudes of life - many changes and problems in a situation or in your life, that you have to deal with (превратности судьбы).
Examples: I understand that despite the
vicissitudes of life, a man should not cheat on his beliefs.
Negative emotion is the normal response of the individual to the
vicissitudes of life.

11). Civil disobedience - action taken by a large group of people in which they refuse to obey particular laws or pay taxes, usually as a form of peaceful political protest (гражданское неповиновение).
Examples: He advocated non-violent
civil disobedience as a strategy to achieve civil rights.
Civil disobedience is intentional breaking of the law.

12). Common misconception - a belief or an idea that is not based on correct information, or that is not understood by people (распространенное заблуждение).
Examples: Another
common misconception about high blood pressure is that it rarely affects women.
A
common misconception is that Dutch is very close to German.

13). Shed the light on – make things clear, add new information to resolve the problem (проливать свет).
Examples: I feel any information from you would help me
