The car from "Back to the Future" Delorean, what a filling and characteristics!

Hello everyone!

Once again reviewing Robert Zemeckis' favorite movie, I suddenly wondered what kind of filling this car actually had and what characteristics it possessed.

Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed after reading several articles in automotive publications.

The fact is that Delorian himself was an engineer and even a vice president of GM Corporation. And when he decided to produce his car, he expected to use units from Chevrolet Corvette. Thus, the Delorian DMC-12 was supposed to compete with the sports cars of those times.

But due to the fact that he practically quarreled with GM shareholders, and the book he released about the internal, so to speak, intimate nuances of the corporation's work was the last straw, GM refused to use its developments and he was forced to turn to Peugeot, Renault and Volvo (PRV)

As a result, a six-cylinder engine of a central location with a volume of 2849 cm3 and a capacity of 150 hp (according to some sources 130 hp) was installed on the Delorian. Both a five-speed manual and an automatic three-speed gearbox were installed on the car.

The development of the chassis and engineering parts of the car was entrusted to Lotus specialists, who, in order to optimize and save the budget, rejected most of Delorean's innovative proposals and integrated Lotus developments, so that the car practically copied the Lotus of that time.

As you know, with such characteristics, he was very far from sports car performance.

Acceleration to 100 km/h with a fairly modest curb weight by modern standards took about 10.5 seconds, and the maximum speed was 208 km/h.

Therefore, for many owners, the Delorean was a disappointment, because behind the chic sporty appearance there was a car that was quite modest in its characteristics.

Of course, the legendary trilogy "Back to the Future" brought the real celebrity to the car, but unfortunately it was already late enough and this did not save the company from bankruptcy.
