Important statement

On April 6, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress issued a statement in response to the US House of Representatives Speaker McCarthy and other members of Congress meeting with Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen in the United States. The full text is as follows:

On April 6, the US House of Representatives Speaker McCarthy and other members of Congress, in spite of China's strong opposition and solemn representations, insisted on meeting with Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen who "transited" to the US. This move seriously violated the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiques, seriously violated international law and basic norms governing international relations, and seriously damaged China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The National People's Congress of China firmly opposes and strongly condemns this.

There is only one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory, and the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. A series of international legal documents, including the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation, have all clarified China's sovereignty over Taiwan. Taiwan has no other status under international law other than being part of China. House Speaker McCarthy, as the third political figure in the U.S. government, has seriously violated the U.S. commitment to China on the Taiwan issue and sent a serious wrong signal to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces. It is a trample on historical facts and justice, and a violation of the international rule of law. destruction.

China's sovereignty and territorial integrity are inviolable and inviolable. The Anti-Secession Law, enacted and implemented by the National People's Congress, clearly stipulates major issues such as upholding the one-China principle, curbing "Taiwan independence" secession, and opposing external forces' interference in the Taiwan issue. Any attempt to "use Taiwan to control China" and support and connive "Taiwan independence" separatist forces will eventually fail, and any attempt to "coerce foreigners to seek independence" and undermine the reunification of the motherland will eventually be punished by law.

The Taiwan issue is the core of China's core interests, the foundation of the political foundation of Sino-US relations, and the first insurmountable red line in Sino-US relations. We firmly oppose any form of official exchanges between the US and Taiwan, and solemnly urge the US government and Congress to stop distorting and hollowing out the one-China principle, stop risky actions that cross the red line, and stop undermining the political foundation of China-US relations. (over)
