Procrastination: putting things off until the last minute and then feeling overwhelmed and stressed.
Do you ever find yourself putting off important tasks until the last possible moment? Do you ever feel like you're drowning in a sea of deadlines and responsibilities, even though you had plenty of time to get things done?
If so, then you might be a procrastinator. Procrastination is a common problem that affects many people, and it can lead to stress, anxiety, and a sense of being overwhelmed.
But why do we procrastinate, and what can we do about it? Let's explore these questions through the stories of three different people who struggle with procrastination.
Story #1: Elena
Elena has a big project due at work in two weeks. She knows that she needs to get started on it right away, but she keeps putting it off. She tells herself that she works better under pressure, and that she'll be able to finish it in plenty of time.
As the deadline approaches, Elena starts to feel more and more anxious. She stays up late every night, trying to get the project finished, and she feels like she's never going to make it.
Finally, on the day before the deadline, Elena turns in the project. It's not her best work, but it's done, and she's relieved that it's over.
Story #2: Anton
Anton is a student who has a paper due in two weeks. He tells himself that he has plenty of time to work on it, so he spends most of his time hanging out with friends and watching TV.
As the deadline approaches, Anton realizes that he hasn't even started the paper. He tries to cram it all in over the next few days, but he feels overwhelmed and stressed.
In the end, Anton turns in a paper that's not his best work. He knows that he could have done better if he had started earlier, but he tells himself that it's not a big deal.
Story #3: Rita
Rita has a lot of things to do every day, but she always feels like she's too busy to get anything done. She spends most of her time scrolling through social media, checking her email, and doing other things that don't require much effort.
As a result, Rita falls behind on her work and starts to feel overwhelmed. She feels like she's never going to catch up, and she starts to feel like a failure.
Eventually, Rita realizes that she needs to change her habits if she wants to be more productive. She starts setting goals for herself, creating to-do lists, and setting aside specific times to work on important tasks.
Through trial and error, Rita discovers that she works best when she breaks her work down into smaller, manageable tasks. She starts to feel more in control of her life, and she no longer feels overwhelmed by her responsibilities.
If you're a procrastinator, then you might recognize some of these stories. But the good news is that you can overcome procrastination and become more productive. To overcome it, there are two ways:
- Mechanical - through disciplining yourself, mechanical actions on a regular basis that will lead to productivity (I will write them below).
(I do not recommend this method because it can still lead to burnout if you are not doing what you love and a mechanical discipline will not work) - A coaching session on finding your true purpose, your business - Finding your true passion, the thing you love, the thing you have inner response. In finding your business with a coach, You do not need to discipline yourself rigidly, because your body and mind won't prevent you from doing it. You will always have the energy and desire to do it, You won't put it off until later. That's why you won't procrastinate. You will prioritise and focus on your work, not on distractions.
Here are some of the tips (discipline) I mentioned above:
- Break your work down into smaller tasks.
- Set specific goals for yourself.
- Create a to-do list and prioritize your tasks.
- Set aside specific times to work on important tasks.
- Eliminate distractions and focus on your work.
- Reward yourself for completing tasks.
By following these tips, you can overcome procrastination and become more productive in your personal and professional life. So why wait? Start taking action today and see the results for yourself.
