Так получилось, что когда речь идет о том, что какое-то явление происходит чаще или реже, в русско-английском переводе я чаще наблюдаю производные от rare или frequent/often. Между тем в аутентичной литературе именно эти фразы я встречаю либо реже, либо не чаще, чем вариации с common.

Иными словами - про common знают все, но это слово незаслуженно часто сидит на лавке запасных.
