Stemmy school gets its first $400K angel investments and goes global

Interview by Valeriy Platonov, GESA Russia contest chair

In the preliminary selection for the GESA Russia 2021 competition among the 10 semifinalists of the competition, where there were such eminent companies as SkyEs (SkyEng), Uchi.ru, ITHub college, Educate online, 01Math, Webium and others, Stemmy school was on the verge of entering to 10 semifinalists. Marked by many experts as worthy of being in the top 10 of the semifinals.

Stemmy school was founded in 2020 with head-quarter in San-Francisco, CA, USA by Khurram Pirov who get bachelor degree in 2018 from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in the field of Fundamental and Quantum Technologies, then in 2020 master degree in Data Science from Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology.

During studies he had internship experience in Russian Quantum Center, then in Oz Forensics and Samsung AI Center as Computer Vision Researcher and Face recognition/ face verification internship.

I did an interview with Khurram Pirov, and he explained to me his projects.

In the first project xreadylab.com, Khurram created educational VR laboratories that help children playfully work with new images, it does not hype on VR, and it does not force this since it is for natural experiments and for more than nothing in schools.

Xready.lab has attracted a team of professionals from the best universities globally, MIPT, MIT, Skoltech, HSE, Moscow State University, Harvard, and it is already helping real schools!

The second project Stemmy school appeared in a sauna and allows children worldwide to study exact subjects in their native language.

Khurram learned how to create video lectures semi-automatically, cheaply and quickly, a day, and you get a course in Hindi, Arabic, Spanish and 30 other languages from a course in English from a Harvard professor.

helps schools and universities monetize and gamify existing content.

As for Stemmy mission Khurram said: “We believe in the concept of a global university, where you can access the best lectures and teachers, in your own language, wherever you are. Harvard, MIT, Skoltech, and MIPT teams supervise the content”.

“As for our mission, Texts/videos from lectures are used as input. Using an in-house AI engine, the video lecture is gamified and available in many languages as you like”, added Khuram.

Here are four versions of the same biology lecture:

In September, Stemmy launched a course for Indians, and already has real users from regions where there is no opportunity to buy expensive content for $ 200, and even in English.

“Now we have done a physics course in Hindi and English and we help Indian children prepare for exams in their native language”, - told me Khurram.

Stemmy wants to help the next 270 million students in need. It doesn't matter where you live; you can study with the best professors in the world, in a convenient dialect, and at the same time play good games; CEO Roblox has already checked it out and drowns not only with words for them. About 30 people are already working on all this!

In 2021 Stemmy received its first 400K$ as angel investments from Kirill Parinov and BGP Litigation.
