One of the greatest challenges in life is being yourself in a world that's trying to make you like everyone else.
For research purpose (В исследовательских целях; research - исследование; researcher - исследователь; purpose - цель, задача), scientists placed 5 monkeys in a cage, with a ladder in the middle and bananas on the top (ученые поместили 5 обезьян в клетку с лестницей посередине и бананами сверху; scientist - ученый; science - наука; to place - помещать; cage - клетка; ladder - лестница; in the middle - посередине,в центре; on the top - сверху, на вершине). Every time a monkey went up the ladder (Каждый раз когда обезьяна поднималась по лестнице; every time - каждый раз, всё время; to go (went, gone) up - подниматься), the scientist soaked the rest of the monkeys with cold water (ученый обливал остальных обезьян холодной водой; to soak - обливать, замачивать; rest - остальное; cold - холодный; water - вода).
For research purpose, scientists placed 5 monkeys in a cage, with a ladder in the middle and bananas on the top. Every time a monkey went up the ladder, the scientist soaked the rest of the monkeys with cold water.
After a while (Через некоторое время), whenever a monkey attempted to climb the ladder (как только обезьяна пыталась забраться на лестницу; whenever - как только, каждый раз; to attempt - пытаться; to climb - взбираться), others would beat him up (другие избивали её; others - другие, остальные; to beat (beat,beaten) up - избивать). After some time (Через некоторое время), no monkey dared go up the ladder regardless of the temptation (ни одна обезьяна не смела подняться по лестнице, несмотря на искушение; to dare - посметь; regardless - несмотря на; независимо от; temptation - искушение, соблазн).
After a while, whenever a monkey attempted to climb the ladder, others would beat him up. After some time, no monkey dared go up the ladder regardless of the temptation.
Scientists then decided to replace one of the monkeys (Затем ученые решили заменить одну обезьяну; to decide - решить; decision - решение; to replace - заменить; replacement - замещение). As expected (Как и ожидалось), the new monkey instantly fell for the temptation and was beaten up by the rest (новая обезьяна сразу поддалась искушению и была избита другими; new - новый; instantly - сразу, мгновенно). After several beatings (После нескольких побоев; several - несколько), this new member learnt not to climb up the ladder even though he never learnt the real reason (этот новый член научился не забираться на лестницу, хоть о не знал настоящей причины; member - член сообщества, участник; to learn - учиться, узнавать; even though - хоть, даже если; real - настоящий; reason- причина).
Scientists then decided to replace one of the monkeys. As expected, the new monkey instantly fell for the temptation and was beaten up by the rest. After several beatings, this new member learnt not to climb up the ladder even though he never learnt the real reason.
Then (Затем), a second monkey was brought in and the same thing happened (принесли вторую обезьяну и повторилось то же самое; to bring (brought, brought) - принести; to happen - произойти, случаться). The first monkey participated in the beating of the second monkey (Первая обезьяна участвовала в избиении второй обезьяны; to participate - участвовать, принимать участие). The replacements continued (Замена продолжалась; replacement - замена; to continue - продолжать), until only a group of 5 monkeys were left in the cage (до тех пор пока в клетке не осталась только группа из 5 обезьян; until - до тех пор, пока; to leave (left, left) - оставить).
Then, a second monkey was brought in and the same thing happened. The first monkey participated in the beating of the second monkey. The replacements continued, until only a group of 5 monkeys were left in the cage.
Even though the new group of monkeys never received a cold shower (Несмотря на то, что новая группа обезьян никогда не принимала холодный душ; to receive - принимать, получать; shower - душ), they continued to beat up any monkey that attempted to climb the ladder (они продолжили избивать любую обезьяну, которая посмеет взобраться на лестницу). If you asked any of the new monkeys why the beatings took place (Если бы вы спросили любую из этих обезьян почему избиения происходят; to ask - спрашивать; to take (took, taken) place - происходить, иметь место), the answer would probably be (ответ возможно будет; answer - ответ; probably - возможно, наверное), “Well, how do I know (Ну, насколько я знаю; to know (knew; known) - знать). You will never influence the world (Ты никогда не повлияешь на мир; to influence - влиять; world - мир) if you continue doing things the way they have always been done (если ты продолжишь делать все так, как это всегда делалось). Be different (Будь другим; different - другой, разный).
Even though the new group of monkeys never received a cold shower, they continued to beat up any monkey that attempted to climb the ladder. If you asked any of the new monkeys why the beatings took place, the answer would probably be, “Well, how do I know. I guess that's how things are done around here!"
You will never influence the world if you continue doing things the way they have always been done.
