Interview from Switzerland. We are launching a series of interviews with participants in financial and production markets around the world.
Today we have my wonderful comrade and professional of the investment market Marco Waespe. These series of interviews are united by one thing, we ask the same questions and want to know how people in different countries look at the current situation. Marco is a unique person of its kind. Not only is he from America, he still lives in Switzerland and successfully leads his projects. His opinion is always very professional. He doesn’t talk much with Russia and it’s very interesting to listen to such people.
SL - Dear Marco, firstly, thank you for agreeing to answer the questions of our platform. Today we have simple questions that are likely to be of interest to entrepreneurs. First of all, how do you survive the virus. Do you also work remotely in Switzerland? Marco W -I‘m doing ok as a self employed consultant here in Switzerland. Home Office was not a new situation for me and I arranged myself to meet my people online but trust is also very important. Some business cases I completely lost due to corona situation. But as I‘m open minded and flexible I was able to get new mandates! SL -How long have you been in your current business? Marco W -I‘m around 20 years in the banking/financial industry and since 10 years self employed. It’s not the first crisis I have to go through and I‘m optimistic to go stronger out of this situation. SL-How do you think the current situation with the virus will affect the business? Marco W - It definitely will have a huge impact! People will do more business online and digitalization is an important word. Travel behavior and many habits will change. It’s very important to have a look to innovation. I personally are interested in changes in commodity trading and how things can be changed but acceptance will be a huge challenge! In my opinion changes for alternative payment and trade finance solutions should be developed in Asia, West Africa or Russia. Places which are not over regulated! New concepts in the travel industry will definitely also become very important and major players will change! What countries are you doing business with? I’m doing business in Switzerland, European Union, USA and West Africa but I hope I can extend my business to other places! SL -Is it possible for an entrepreneur to easily join in a similar business? Marco W -Network is still the key word and to find substantial business which is compliant with rules but also is long term related. And we have a New Situation meaning also new opportunities! Let’s get it done! SL -How did you create your system and why is it stable in your opinion? Marco W- I guess I have a substantial network and when I‘m doing a good and trustworthy job, beeing open minded and flexible I will have a good future. But also to tell my clients straight what I‘m able to do and also say it when I have a different opinion! SL.- Are there any tips that you could give to people who are just starting their business and it does not matter where they run it? Marco W -Having a fency office space is the past. You can work from everywhere you want. Today we have so many tools to work online. SL- What do you think should be done to start a business and how to start working with investors? Marco W-Be always to be able to explain your USP (Unique Selling Preposition), work with a fair and recognizable valuation, be honest and innovative.
SL -Do you do business with Russian entrepreneurs? Marco W -Unfortunately I only have a few contacts also as I don’t know the culture well. Except I like drinking Vodka. Hey, but hopefully I can change this in the near future. SL -Did your thinking change after you started working with partners and investors and how did it affect you personally? Marco W -From every contact and business case you can learn a lot!
SL -Is there something to say to Russian entrepreneurs and other entrepreneurs who want to start a business? Warco W - Be positive, take a good advise from a good person and stay positive also if some doors seems to be closed! At the end we are all human beings
We thank Mr. Marco and wish him personal health and success, and his company "Marco Waespe Consalting" success in business.
