Seventy years of Porsche. Part 2

On Porsche cars they felt many, some true, very true, others mythical or imaginative: let's understand the reasons for such a success. Starting with a list of the most famous (some of them even crushed), such as "the cars that run on the track on Sunday and with which you can use them on Monday to go to work": true, even if in those years they often said so for the Fiat 600, perhaps with Abarth muffler, but it was not the same thing. A statement transformed over time, with the 911 that increased power and performance at every generation, into "supercars that can be driven even on a daily basis": true, especially when the "other beasts" were grumpy, and even returned to the factory for coupons and deep overhauls, when the Porsches did not even suffer in urban traffic. "They are easy to drive, even sporty": true in half, it depends a lot on series and model; thinking of cars like the 930 (first versions of the 911 Turbo) drivers could boast of the title of "tamer". And also several series to follow, without targeted trim and a high driving ability were "over-engined" with respect to the floorpan, at least up to the 964 series, the last with the headlights "vertical", to identify it quickly. Returning to this consideration, it should be specified with a different expression, applicable to many other series, even recent and current: it is difficult to deny that the Porsches, for character and design, construction and racing experience, allow normal drivers to approach limits not so easily reached with other cars, and drivers to overcome them - in race - with undeniable simplicity. Beyond the romantic age, let's think about the medium powers of the current range, with performances over 300 km/h for all 911, for example.

What, in the end, do the Porsches have, different from all, but just all, the others? Another moment of patience, to understand the genesis of this difference: Porsche is a manufacturer that for seventy years has looked ahead, turning dreams into reality, running and winning everywhere and more than any competitor, innovating without limits of imagination, even daring the inosable. Let's think about the purity of the brand building sport utilities, saloons and even station wagons, some even diesel: with huge sales successes. Without ever betraying quality, finishes, lines, sporting and luxury image, constructive rigour and attention to tradition. Even with a fully electric car with high possibilities for independent driving, such as Taycan: a sporty and seductive saloon for the future, soon to be on sale.

But the time has come to reveal the reason for the added value of each Porsche: all of them, without exception, provide a set of sensations not found elsewhere. Too easy is the reference to the insertion of the key on the left (one would recognize a Porsche also blindfolded): memory of the start at Le Mans when the drivers crossed the race track to enter the cockpit, starting the engine with their left hand to have the right free for the simultaneous insertion of the first gear.

The Porsche sensations start with the driving position, then with the first meters of travel for the response of all the controls (it does not seem, but it is so), with the performance involvement that increases kilometer after kilometer, as the confidence that grows exponentially, feeling at one with the car. Many people say that, you know, but it's not the same thing, believe us. Because in the last seventy years Porsche has confirmed a rule, which we personally consider valid also for the next decades: only those who run looking far ahead, without losing sight of their tradition can make it. Also because the list of patents registered by Porsche over time is perhaps longer than the successes in competitions.
