A "moTOre" to experience the history of the automobile

Everyone talks about it, but when you get to the point, the discourse gets complicated and seems to become impossible. We are talking about the magic words "to network" and/or "to make system", words that in Italy seem to exist only in the famous bar chats.

The matter concerns all fields and often touches what is, at the same time, one of the strengths and weaknesses of Italy: its incredible heritage of artistic and cultural beauty, exceptional only as the disorganization that distinguishes it.

This treasure chest of hidden treasures also includes the history of the car, exhibited in large museums and small and large collections. In Emilia Romagna they have long since understood this and have created the Motor Valley. In a very pragmatic way, they have highlighted not only the museums of manufacturers such as Ducati, Ferrari and Lamborghini, but have also included in this map the collections of many enthusiasts. Which, for many years, was not done in Piedmont. This gap was filled four years ago by the "moTore" itinerary, one of the four existing routes on the site.

This itinerary includes the Turin Automobile Museum, the Fiat Historical Centre, the Mirafiori Motor Village, the Industrial Village, Automotoretrò and the Villar Perosa Museum of Mechanics and Bearings. They all joined the initiative, writing a letter in which they also expressed their support. Turin could become, together with Emilia Romagna, the first cultural pole in the world in the automotive sector. Two realities that could ideally be "connected" by the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese, reopened to the public in June 2015.

A union that could make the strength, with interesting repercussions also with regard to modern vehicles: the past could help to perceive the great tradition that has the North of Italy in car design and motoring technology.

"moTOre" also allows to increase the visibility of structures that are of particular interest to modern vehicles: this is the case of the Mirafiori Motor Village (where historical cars from the Arese Museum and the Fiat and Lancia collections are sometimes exhibited) and the little-known Industrial Village. This last structure, located a few steps from the entrance of Turin-Milan, offers an overview of the world of heavy vehicles produced by CHN Industrial (which includes Iveco). In addition, a gallery of historic vehicles has also been set up in the beautiful multi-purpose space: trucks, couriers, tractors and earthmoving machines allow visitors to understand the evolution of these work vehicles.

The next step of the "MoTOre" will be to include in the itinerary - hopefully soon - the Bertone collection, recently purchased by the Italian Historical Automotoclub. Hoping that, as promised by the Mayor of Turin Piero Fassino, there will soon be a suitable location for this collection. There is one "moTOre" idea: to create the exhibition structure next to the Mirafiori Motor Village. The large influx of people in one of the largest dealerships in Italy could make the area the "cultural and technical hub" of the Turin car. Also because, not far away, are kept the cars of the historic collection of FCA, with the Lancia (until a few years housed in a structure in Borgo S. Paolo) and many Fiat. This operation would make Turin truly "polycentric", with several districts "specialized" in various missions. In Mirafiori, given its past, could arise (using the sheds left free from industrial activities) a real "citadel of the car". All feasible: in Reggio Emilia in a short time have been recovered part of the legendary "Reggiane Workshops" with an architectural intervention that has allowed to create a real "technopolis". Perhaps in Piedmont it would take a bit of the spirit of "doing" typical of Emilia Romagna. A region where the public and private sectors have been able to collaborate to highlight the motoring "riches" present in the territory.
