Psychology of individual style. What does your clothing symbolize?

In appearance, in particular in clothing, much can be said about the person. Understand its nature, nature of actions, main priorities, lifestyle and thoughts. And what does clothes mean easily enough to determine, even if you are not a stylist, psychologist or specialist in non-verbal communications. To do this, you only need to voice clear criteria for the elements of appearance, their regularity - and conclusions will follow immediately. Want to try?

This weekend I conducted a corporate training "I + clothes" for a group of girls commissioned by a psychotherapist. And once again, we touched on a topic that is always of interest to everyone - how random is the choice of clothing? How does it reflect the internal state of a person in a certain period of time? How clearly do people show character traits \ attachments \ fears through looks and clothes? So, as soon as I could only outline the situation, there was a brainstorming and versions came from the participants - how this or that person showed their characteristics of behavior through clothes.

Try it and you guess your options. I am sure the options will be interesting:

SITUATION ONE

One girl has a relationship with a married man who regularly buys her pants. And they are always white. As a result, she had several of these in her wardrobe. All this "angelic madness" as a result goes to the stylist with the "complete, pliz" sauce. And after all, everything would be fine, but there is a catch that is clearly present in these “ideal relations”. After all, is it not just that a family man is attracted to buy things of a sterile color to his mistress, and it is at the bottom of the female figure?

SITUATION TWO

A woman of 40 years old, single, without children. He heads the branch of a Russian insurance company in a large city under a contract, where he was sent several years ago from Moscow. In the wardrobe there is a large part of business style clothing (which, incidentally, is very explainable). But, there is one feature - all blouses / shirts of light color have "ties". That is - all the “tops” have this feature in different versions - “ties” on the sleeves, on the side seams, untied bows on the pockets, cords under the collar, on the back in the form of a strap, etc. The rest of the clothes are exclusively laconic forms and smooth textures. What could this mean in this situation?

SITUATION THREE

Woman 37 years old. Head of Sales, B2B Often changes the place of work due to mutual disagreement on the organization of the work process with senior management. Prefers things that do not crumple and are always in a strong fit. Request for an image that looks expensive status. All clothes are of "case" type with a clear shape and dense texture. Seeks to always look neat, strives for ideality through a contoured silhouette. At the same time, each time he falls into the trap of accidents - hooks on pantyhose, crawled seams on the dress, forgot lipstick, dripped juice on the dress and so on. How does the appearance and stream of accidents reflect the work situation?

Agree interestingly to solve the puzzles associated with the external manifestation of internal installations. Especially from the side. And, I confess in secret, it is precisely these puzzles that really catch me in this profession. By providing access to their wardrobes, customers get more than just complete sets. Often such a meeting is a clue to non-verbal signals transmitted through appearance. It is useful to identify and recognize oddities in clothes from the point of view that in the future it can be decided - what to do about it? Take responsibility, admit habits and change them if you really need to. It is quite difficult to analyze such moments on your own. At least because of the subjective perception of yourself and your things.

From the outside it is always easier, especially when a specialist is nearby. But you can try.

  • FIRST STEP

Put things from the wardrobe, sorting them into groups. Groups can be formed according to your desire. For example - you can collect all the dresses in one group and see - what unites them? What common attribute \ element do these things have? Perhaps you need to disassemble the goals of the wardrobe. For example, in one group, focus clothing only for work \ for sports \ for a weekend. And also study the generalizing characteristics of these things. See what will be more convenient for you. The main thing is that a single, generalizing sign appears. This can be a color scheme \ specific texture \ cut feature \ pattern.

  • SECOND STEP

Write these characteristics on a piece of paper and live with this information for several hours / days. Perhaps the answer will not come right away. It is important to use the information written out not literally. Try to play the association (white = sterility, turtlenecks = closed). Try it, anyway it's interesting!
