If we'd never, ever taken a risk, we'd probably all be sitting in caves and warming our paws at the campfire. No, we wouldn't sit and warm. Fire is also a risk. We would just walk through the vast expanses of Africa and dig up the roots. But our ancient ancestors took risks, which eventually led to the development of civilization, and we can now warm our paws in different places. As well as the roots, we have a fairly wide range of different gastronomic delights. I.e. the risk is the engine of evolution, because with its help the man created new ways of survival and organized a favorable and safe environment around him.
The risk in life is almost everywhere.
It's kind of a courage to do something new, to break away from the known and familiar. And since the risk is so useful, the nature rewards us for it with dopamine, i.e. a person enjoys it. It is to move on, live longer and produce a lot of descendants.
Now, of course, not what it used to be. However, we still have to move forward, take risks, try something new. Although we are not Neanderthals with their cruel world of survival for a long time, the struggle for resources is still present. And the urge to develop these resources still exists in modern man. However, now his motives are more complex.
What motives push a person to step forward? In order not to go into complex descriptions, let's remember Maslow's pyramid with his needs to be met.
Most of them are not satisfied by themselves, you have to move somehow and walk to the unknown person's meeting. And it concerns everything that is marked in the pyramid from the base to the top. Even to receive the daily bread one should boldly step out of the entrance, enter the shop and boldly ask the queue: "Who is the last one here?
Well, people cope with bread to a greater extent, but the higher it is, the harder it is. Right from the second layer onwards, the "need for security". How do we do it? If you want security even higher, you have to take a risk. From a dangerous place you have to go to another, maybe even more dangerous, and maybe not. And it is necessary to do it because it is already quite reliable that you are in a bad place, and in the other it can be better. There is a chance that it will be, but there is no guarantee. So, to step into the unknown is the risk without which nothing in life can change.
Going, of course, is not as easy as talking about it. Everyone who is going to go somewhere, asks me why I go there, what I get after I take a risk. And, of course, there are pluses.
What are the advantages of risk:
1. New opportunities appear. The further you step, the more horizons move apart, the more you see landscapes.
2. More chances to get something out of life. The more you move forward, the more you can see and get what you want. Sitting on the spot, you can even see a lot of things you want to see, but your hands often do not reach this desired.
3. Expansion of comfort zone. The more spaces you have mastered, the more places you feel comfortable and relaxed in this world.
4. the experience that you learn. Yes, this very experience. Although many people are already making fun of the "learning experience" (they say, yeah, why should I need it, the whole life is a "learning experience"), but I do need it. It is simply necessary not for the fact, as such, but for the use of the information received in the future. If there is no experience, or it was not taken into account, then each step will correspond to the raids.
5. Increasing self-confidence and reducing the level of fear of failure by increasing the sense of self-efficacy. This is where experience and processing helps. I coped with the risky task, felt that you can, that you act correctly and effectively.
However, people are often afraid to take some steps forward. What scares them?
1. Fear of failure ("what if it doesn't work out")
2. Rejection of others. Taunting ("everyone will say I'm a fool")
3. Confirmation of your own worthlessness ("I'm not good for anything")
4. Not wanting to feel thrilled ("I might get scared and not be able to")
5. Fear of losing control ("What if I fall and can't get up")
A lot of people think you can't risk it. You start to take risks and immediately you will do something stupid, spend money and, in general, you will ruin your whole life. But the risk of risk of discord. There is indeed an impulsive behavior where people take risks without thinking about the consequences. They are sometimes called "crazy" by the people.
So what is "crazy" about? In this case, the person is moved:
1. Search for thrills.
2. Lack of understanding of the consequences of behavior and decisions.
3. impulsiveness. Solution under the influence of a momentary desire.
4. denial. "Nothing happens to me" "I'm a lucky man".
5. Confidence. A person disclaims the possibility of problems that require attention and elaboration. They think that if something, something comes up, or somehow everything goes well (sometimes it happens, and sometimes it doesn't)
And given that nature gives us dopamine as a risk, such impulsive risky behavior can cause dependence. Even if people really lose everything as a result of irrational actions, they want to take risks again. And not for revenge, but for the sake of the risk process itself.
However, for the sake of oneself and one's life, one should take risks. But taking risks is thoughtful. And for this purpose it is necessary:
1) Assess the need for a goal. You have to start thinking about whether the game is worth playing candles and whether it is necessary to take risks in this place and not in another one. Will the risky acquire here what he is looking for, or the achievement will be useless.
2) Assess the level and degree of risk. Not everything that a person aspires to is worth the risk here, now and immediately. If you just desperately want ice cream now, then jumping off the balcony, even with a parachute, is not quite an adequate step. You can spend 10 minutes more, but still save your life.
3) Assess the risk at each stage of the event and identify critical moments. Not all parts of the problem are risk issues. Somewhere it is necessary to take risks, but somewhere it is not. Before you start, it is worth to guess where they are the very risky moments. And think about how you can reduce the risk.
4) Assess the size and extent of the effort that will need to be invested to achieve the goal. Some things we just don't need in life, or are not critical. That is, there is no particular reason to put everything on them and break your life. It's as if there's a penny in the floor between the boards and the house is being demolished for it.
5) Draw up a plan to overcome difficulties taking into account the reduced risk.
