Is the juice in the bag healthy? Part 2

Juice Packaging Line

Of course, compression alone would not be enough to pack the package securely. To understand what is happening, you need to talk a little more about the composition of multilayer packaging.

The outer layer is polyethylene that protects the packaging design from moisture.

Then comes a layer of cardboard on which the design is applied. Cardboard gives packaging strength, thanks to it it holds its shape.

Then a layer of polyethylene connecting the cardboard with aluminum foil. Aluminum foil protects the product from oxygen, odors, and light.

Another bonding layer of polyethylene. A layer of food-grade polyethylene for sealing packaging.

So, in the process of bottling, aluminum foil performs another function. A short-term electromagnetic pulse is applied to it, as a result of which the foil is heated and glues layers of polyethylene. The juice bag becomes airtight.

If for some reason the bag does not stick well, the pusher immediately, at the exit of the packaging machine, discards it from the conveyor. Everything happens automatically, the worker can only control the operation of the installation. An open product is not visible anywhere, everything happens in a confined space of the machine, without access of air, and therefore, without the risk of bacteria. Everything is sterile. That is why the juice pack has such a long shelf life - a whole year.

But if you opened the bag, the manufacturer recommends storing it in the refrigerator and drinking it for two days. Why is that? Yes, because there are no preservatives in the composition, and as soon as the air gets inside, the reproduction of bacteria in the air begins, and the juice can deteriorate.

The next unit sticks on the lid packages. From the box where the lids fidget and bounce, like balls in the Sportloto, they get inside the car. With an exact movement, so fast that you barely have time to catch a glance, the machine sticks lids on packets that do not slow down the movement. The line pours 7000 liters per hour, and there are eighteen total packaging lines at the Multon factory! And she’s getting ready to launch.

Meanwhile, the packages go further, line up, slide 12 pieces into a box of corrugated cardboard, which is immediately sealed and gets onto the next conveyor. Then the movement slows down, boxes of juice, swaying gently, move through the gallery to the next workshop, where they are packed in pallets, in common people called wooden pallets. The machine rotates the pallet so that the arriving boxes become in different directions, for greater stability. Finally, the pallet is filled, and the machine sends it to the stretch installation. A couple of smooth movements up and down, simultaneously with the rotation of the base, and now a two-meter stack of boxes is wrapped with film, like a suitcase at the airport. The film is cut off, and a fully packed pallet solemnly leaves for the warehouse.

The warehouse is much quieter, nothing rattles and rattles here. But you should not lose your vigilance: swift auto-loaders rush past. They freeze on the spot, lifting a heavy pallet to the very ceiling, smoothly turn around and rush again, frightening away with the horn of gaping journalists.

All information about the type of product, its quantity and location in the warehouse immediately goes to the computer, so the operator at any time knows how many and which product is in stock. There are two such warehouses at the Multon plant, between them there is a railway line, for convenience and speed of shipment. No wonder the plant bottles up to 2.2 million liters daily.

The most popular juice in Russia is apple juice, although it is, of course, orange all over the world. Each juice is valuable in its own way, and ideally, they should be alternated. So, apple juice supplies potassium and enhances appetite, orange improves immunity, grapefruit helps burn fat, cherry removes toxins, and tomato reduces the risk of cancer.

And if you are afraid of too much sugar - just do not drink juice in liters. According to WHO recommendations, an adult needs 150-300 ml of juice per day (that is, one and a half glasses). With such a diet with juice, you get only 5% of the daily sugar intake. In addition, it is not refined, but natural fruit sugar. One glass of juice in terms of fructose is equal to a pair of medium apples. Not so scary, is it?
