You really should watch this series even if you've never seen the original Karate Kid as I did.
I like it when we look at the story not about prosperous Danny LaRusso who thrives, who has a loving wife, daughter, and bussiness going great. No, our hero is Johnny Lawrence, who, after being defeated by LaRusso's crane kick, is going down on the road of life.
We've got a few movie patterns, and our hero decides to revive Cobra Kai dojo.
I've written you about Danny LaRusso, who got everything in his life, haven't I? You think he is so positive role model? Or maybe Johnny Lawrence is useless drunk, scum? Nope. In the second season Johnny said that Cobra Kai battle-cry was just a black letters on the white wall, and the world was grey.
I like it when the original Karate Kid's ex-antagonist looks pretty much like a real human being. He had dreams, which weren't accomplished, goals weren't achieved. He knows the feeling of being desperate, when you think you can't do anything and just get drunk. He doesn't aware of many things. Some of them are confusing him, some of them he ignores, cause he's a badass. Cobra Kai sensei tries to be a better man, to overcome his defects, but the reality constantly throws him challenges or just plays dirty tricks on him. "Life isn't fair", his words.
I have less compassion for other characters. Who didn't want to be the ultimate fighter back in the school days. Who didn't want to have a mohawk like Hawk did. I did and sometimes still want to.
It's funny when our two heroes, LaRusso and Lawrence, regularly act as bad guy and good guy, but they switch positions: Lawrence depicts dick on LaRusso's commercial banner, then LaRusso makes rent for Lawrence get higher. Or they can think about worse.
Of course, there are total jerks in every season who have to be beaten in the name of justice.
I really like these fight scenes. Especially this school *spoiler* in *spoiler* episode.
And don't forget badass music during episodes.
Cobra Kai never dies.
