Since it’s about France today, it reminds me that for some reason, after watching the movie La Reine Margot (1994) I became obsessed by this historic character. The movie is great despite all the violence. After that, I studied her writings and read a lot about her. She was an extremely well educated woman with a tendency to… well, let’s call it a very liberal way of life. I am still quite fascinated by her. I have read the book, by which the movie has been inspired (La Reine Margot by Alexandre Dumas) and also one about the troublesome relationship she had with her mother (the strong Italian Caterina de Medici), the excellent The Rival Queens, by Nancy Goldstone. But the reason for my fascination was never clear to me. You know when some people go to a psychic and she tells them that they were Cleopatra or Napoleon in their past lives? I guess, in my case I was probably Marguerite de Valois…
