Джерард Артур Уэй (Gerard Arthur Way) родился 9 апреля 1977 года в Ньюарке. Кроме музыки Уэй увлекался также рисованием и комиксами. После окончания средней школы в 1995 году, Уэй поступил в арт-школу School of Visual Arts в Нью-Йорке, закончив ее в 1999 году со степенью бакалавра изобразительных искусств.Во время жуткого террористического акта 11 сентября 2001 года Джерард находился в Нью-Йорке.
