Любителям слухов и сплетен посвящается эта английская идиома! Ох уж эти английские фразочки! Ну с этой всё более или менее понятно, по крайней мере есть какая-то логика! Давайте разбираться. Дословно "word on the street" - "слово на улице", как-то не очень понятно. Но "word" также может означать "известие", а это уже ближе к делу! Получается, "известие на улице", другими словами "на улицах говорят" или "ходят слухи"...
