Abstract. An assessment of the state of quarry workings left after the extraction of building stone is given. The reasons hindering the process of natural restoration of vegetation on the sides and bottom of old quarries are revealed. The negative impact of scree formation on the growth of forest cover on non-working sides of quarries was determined.
