The 1966 ZIL-131, 1977 Ural-4320, 1981 KamAZ-4310 and KamAZ-63968 Typhoon-K represent four very different stages of Soviet and Russian military-vehicle development. The first three are conventional 6×6 logistics trucks built around relatively simple mechanical drivetrains, while the Typhoon-K is a modern armored tactical vehicle designed around crew protection, mine resistance, electronics and survivability rather than simply carrying cargo. In other words, this is an evolution from basic all-terrain logistics → diesel heavy logistics → more capable tactical 6×6 → armored protected mobility. The 1966 ZIL-131 was introduced as the successor to the ZIL-157 and became one of the Soviet Army's most recognizable general-purpose 6×6 trucks. The production period ultimately extended far beyond 1966, but the 1966 model represents the beginning of the main ZIL-131 generation. Its conventional powertrain was a 6.0-liter ZIL V8 gasoline engine producing approximately 150 hp and 402 Nm of torque, connected to a five-speed manual transmission. The truck used three driven axles, leaf springs and drum brakes with pneumatic control. Published specifications give approximately 330 mm of ground clearance and a road speed around 80 km/h. The ZIL-131's engine is one of the clearest indications of its era. A 6.0-liter gasoline V8 producing 150 hp may sound inefficient today, but Soviet military designers were working within a very different technological and logistical environment. The engine was naturally aspirated and carbureted, with relatively low compression, and emphasized mechanical simplicity. Its approximately 402 Nm of torque was adequate for the truck's intended load and gearing, but the engine had to work considerably harder than a later diesel under sustained heavy-load conditions. The ZIL's 6×6 drivetrain was nevertheless extremely useful. Its three driven axles, low-range gearing and substantial ground clearance allowed it to travel over mud, snow, sand and rough tracks where conventional road trucks would quickly lose traction. Its suspension was conventional leaf-spring construction, which sacrificed some articulation compared with later high-mobility systems but was relatively simple and robust. The basic ZIL-131 cargo truck was around the 3.5-ton off-road payload class, although published specifications vary by operating condition and configuration. The truck could also tow a substantial trailer, making it useful as part of a larger logistics system. The design was not about speed; it was about moving fuel, ammunition, food, personnel and equipment through poor infrastructure. One of the ZIL's biggest characteristics is its simplicity. The driver operates a conventional manual transmission, the engine uses carburetion rather than electronic fuel injection, and the suspension and axles are mechanically straightforward. That made the vehicle relatively easy to maintain in austere conditions, but it also meant considerable driver workload and relatively high fuel consumption compared with later diesel trucks. The 1977 Ural-4320 represents a major change in philosophy. The Ural-4320 entered production in 1977 as a diesel-powered 6×6 intended for cargo, personnel and trailer transport across essentially all types of roads and terrain. It became one of the Soviet Union's major military logistics platforms and remains an important member of the Ural truck family. The early Ural-4320 is particularly interesting because several engines were used over its production life. Early versions included the 10.85-liter KamAZ-740.10 V8 diesel, while later versions received YaMZ diesel engines, including the 11.2-liter YaMZ-236 and 14.9-liter YaMZ-238. For a representative 1977-1986 configuration, the KamAZ-740.10 produced about 210 hp, with a five-speed manual transmission and a two-speed transfer case. One published early configuration lists approximately 5,000 kg payload, 13,665 kg GVWR and 400 mm ground clearance. That diesel engine completely changes the truck's working character. Compared with the gasoline ZIL-131, the Ural
