Journey to the Last Question.
“The future is already here — it's just not evenly distributed.”
— William Gibson
Here begins a series of texts, very different from one another.
This series is a map. A route through my reflections on the central question of our time: what happens to a species that has created its own successor?
I began this path as an engineer, searching for a rational solution. But the deeper I went, the clearer it became that this was not enough. The question of AGI is not only about code and silicon. It is about power, meaning, the coming God, and about what will remain of us once we cease to be the most intelligent beings on this planet — and then cease to be.
The path turned out not to be straight. It twisted, broke, and kept forcing me to return to the same questions from new angles. The texts you will see reflect these turns.
So there will be everything here — the cold logic of diagnosis, the allure of radical solutions, the rebellion of the engineer, the return to the starting point of these reflections.
These texts do not argue with each other. They complement one another.
I have not found a single final answer. But I have felt along the contours of something like hope.
I invite you to walk this path with me — to ask yourself the right questions. Because the time when we could afford not to think about the future after us is ending.
Perhaps it has already ended.
This is the introduction to "The Merge Chronicles."
