To give someone/something the benefit of the doubt 🤨
Have you ever felt that you wanted to believe the best about someone, even if you aren’t that sure?
Say, your colleague John hasn’t answered the email you sent him ages ago. You try not to jump to conclusions; maybe he is ill 🤒or his laptop was stolen? Maybe his email was hacked or he simply forgot to submit his reply? It’s not that John doesn’t care about you or he is a bad employee, something might have happened, right?
If you think this way, you can say:
“I’ll give John the benefit of the doubt!”
