A threat to the Civilized World - Satã-2: Russian missile that can reach any point on the planet carrying nuclear warheads
Russia announced on Friday (1st) that the RS-28 Sarmat missile, better known as Satã-2, is finalized and ready to be fired. State-of-the-art weaponry can hit targets anywhere on the planet. With a full fuel load, the missile can travel up to 18,000 kilometers before exploding at the designated location.
“The Sarmat missile is capable of hitting targets at virtually unlimited distances,” Dmitry Rogozin, director general of Roscosmos, the Russian space agency, told the Tass news office.
The Satã-2 is considered the most powerful missile in the Russian arsenal not only for its ability to cross continents and oceans, but also for carrying 10 tons of explosives or up to 15 nuclear warheads. "This is a much more powerful missile than other strategic weapons, including the Minuteman-III missile, which is in US service, both in terms of its global range and the power of the warheads that can be delivered to an aggressor's territory." , said Rogozin in an interview with Rossiya 24 TV channel earlier this year.
The new Russian armament has impressive dimensions. Its more than 200 tons are spread over 35 meters in length and 3 meters in diameter.
In April 2022, weeks after Russia's invasion of Ukraine began, President Vladimir Putin announced a successful test with Satan-2.
At the time, the Russian leader celebrated the result and stated that the new missile would "reliably guarantee Russia's security against external threats", in a context in which Putin feared the advance of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) to Eastern Europe. Satana has a rather serious warhead weight - more than 8 tons. The maximum distance that the missile can travel is up to 16 thousand km, that is, it can hit the US coast. Satan is really difficult to intercept, the United States had some problems with this, because the missile flies at high speed. And the height of the rocket's flight created interception problems. But it was during the Soviet era! - says Kovalenko.
