How a cow “made” a graft
I don’t know what you were thinking but…
The first vaccine was invented by Edward Jenner in the late 18th century, who noticed that milkmades never get smallpox (this is in an era of epidemics!).
He suggested that women infected with smallpox from their cows are not affected by smallpox or carry it lightly.
To test his hypothesis Jenner infected James Phipps, an eight-year-old peasant boy, with cowpox (the disease was mild and passed quickly). A few weeks later the medic tried to infect the boy with smallpox, but the boy didn’t get sick!
But as always it happens dissatisfied with the new method immediately appeared. These were the doctors who continued to practice variolation (vaccinated people not with cowpox but with natural, which was much more dangerous) and the Church that said that all vaccinated people will have a tail, horns and hooves!
The word “vaccination” comes from the Latin “vaccines” – cow
At one time, Jenner was offered to go on an expedition with the famous James Cook (the one who was killed in Hawaii by the natives), but Jenner refused – apparently, the inventor of the vaccine had good intuition ))
It was during Jenner’s time that a foundation appeared that still exists today – anti-vaccination demonstration takes place in London several times a year (for over two centuries!)
