Relationships are hard in the 21st century.
We're all working harder, living longer, and having more responsibilities than ever before. In short: we're dealing with a lot of things that can make it difficult to invest in a relationship.
Here are three tips for making sure you're investing in your relationship instead of just surviving it:
1) Be conscious of your time together. Make sure you're taking your time together seriously—don't rush through every moment of every day. You don't always have to plan everything out in advance, but if you start off with a schedule for how much time each person gets with their partner each day, it will be easier for them to feel like they can count on that time being intentional and planned.
2) Set boundaries. Boundaries help people feel safe and secure by giving them the freedom to express their needs without feeling threatened or over-controlled by their partner's reactions (or lack thereof). If you find yourself feeling insecure about where your boundaries lie, ask yourself what would happen if someone tried to cross those lines? How would you react? What could you do differently next time?
