Amelia Earhart, Famous Flyer.

Amelia Earhart was a famous pilot. She was one of the first female pilots. She flew long distances and broke records.

Amelia was different. When she was a young girl, she played baseball, climbed trees and went fishing. This were unusual for a girl in a nineteen twenties. Later she learned to fly. In nineteen thirty two Amelia became the first woman who flied alone in the Atlantic Ocean.

Amelia was in all newspapers. She became famous and everyone loved her. Young girls heard about Amelia on the radio. They wanted to be like her, she was their hero.

Amelia had a dream. To fly around the World and in nineteen thirty seven she started her long journey. She travel with the navigator. His name was Fred Noonan.

They began her journey in Francisco. First, they flew east, over the USA and land down in South America. Next, they went across the North Africa and some Asia. A month later they arrive in Lae New Guinea.

Here they planned for the next flight to Howland island in the Pacific Ocean. But the island was very small and difficult to find before Amelia and Fred found the island they disappeared. Ships nearby tried to call Amelia, but there was problems this the radio.

"We are on the line one-five-seven-three-three-seven, one-five-seven-three-three-seven" - this was her last words to the man on the ship. Many ships continue to look Amelia, but they didn't find her. Some people think Amelia landed on this island: Nikumaroro.

At two thousand and one a team looked for clues (улики, следы). They found some things like bottoms and shoes but were they Amelia's? We don't know. So, that happened to Amelia Earhart? It's still a mystery.
