ОПИСАНИЕ ГРАФИКОВ С ДВУМЯ ФИГУРАМИ (IELTS ACADEMIC WRITING TASK 1)
Описание line graph, pie charts, bar charts, diagrams, tables - стандартное задание для академического модуля IELTS.
Чаще всего схемой написания является следующий план:
1) Introduction - указываем, что показывает график
2) Overview - говорим об общих тенденциях, даем так называемый helicopter view
3) 2 или 3 body paragraphs с основными чертами (изменение и сравнение).
Однако, в задании может попасться 2 фигуры сразу. Как их тогда описывать?
1) Intro и overview будут общими
2) Один body paragraph посвящаем одной фигуре, второй - другой. Не стоит пытаться перемещать и сравнить их между собой, зачастую это неправильно.
Например, изначально на графике на картинке мне очень уж хотелось связать тот факт, что резкий прирост населений связан с expansion towards the fresh water supply. Но, как бы, подтверждено ли это как-то документально? Или это только догадки мои? Если последнее - убираем.
Ниже приведу пример описания этого задания.
The map and the graph show the expansion of the city of Alexandria over a 140-year period, between 1840 and 1980, accompanied by the population growth.
Overall, the increase in population numbers became more dynamic with the expansion of the city away from the Mediterranean coastline and towards the fresh waters of the lake.
The city of 1840 was initially a small settlement, taking up 4 square kilometres of the seashore. In fifty years' time, namely by 1890, the territory of the town had extended to the south-east and tripled in size. The eventual territorial growth increased exponentially and by 1960 the city sprawled further to the south-east expanding almost fivefold. The end of the period witnessed the most dynamic growth, with the city of Alexandria spreading over a 100-square-kilometre territory, from the westernmost coastline to the far east, and reaching the shore of the lake by 1980.
Population-wise, the settlement originally was home to half a million people in 1840. The following one hundred years saw a gradual increase in the number of residents, which doubled to reach a million in 1940. From then onwards, the growth was more rapid, hitting a mark of 1.5 million people in 1960 and eventually skyrocketing to almost 3 million residents in 1980.
