Что посмотреть
Часовня Параскевы Пятницы
The very chapel portrayed on the ten‑rouble banknote has become one of the city’s main symbols. It stands on Lookout Hill, where originally a wooden watchtower guarded the Yenisei Cossacks; in 1855 a stone chapel was erected there. Today it is among the finest observation decks, offering a panoramic view of Krasnoyarsk, the Yenisei and the cliffs of the right bank. Adjacent to the chapel lies Pokrovsky Park, a perfect spot for summer picnics, and a cannon that fires daily at noon.
Храм Преображения Господня или Органный зал
The Cathedral of the Transfiguration, built in a Gothic style at the turn of the 20th century, survived merely eleven years before being closed in 1922. Thereafter the building housed various institutions, including a radio committee, a sound‑recording studio of radio and television.
In the 1980s the church was restored, its bell towers rebuilt and a pipe organ installed. Crafted in the Czech Republic, the instrument contains over 2,000 pipes, 30 registers, three manuals and a pedalboard. Today the premises host regular organ concerts and Catholic masses.
Музей-усадьба Сурикова
This house was the birthplace and childhood home of painter Vasily Surikov, famous for works such as “The Boyarynya Morozova” and “Storming of the Snowy Town”. The estate preserves a traditional black sauna, a granary, a stables, an annex and a two‑storey larch house. Inside the larch house a 19th‑century Siberian town interior has been recreated, complete with a Russian stove and wall paintings by the artist.
Красноярский Биг-Бен
A clock tower in the city centre resembles London’s famous “Big Ben”, hence its nickname. Standing 30 metres tall, each dial measures 6.5 metres in diameter. The chimes strike every half hour, and on holidays the mechanism plays musical tunes.
Набережные Енисея и Коммунальный мост
The mighty Yenisei is bordered by two embankments — left‑bank and right‑bank. On the left bank a two‑level promenade stretches for 6 km from the Vantov Bridge to the Railway Bridge. Visitors can stroll, rent a bike or roller‑skates, and during summer the promenade hosts concerts, festivals and fairs. Piers also accommodate excursion vessels that cruise the Yenisei.
The right‑bank embankment is called YarGinyskaya and is designed in an eco‑style, featuring equipped recreation and sports zones, playgrounds, bike lanes, an amphitheatre and a viewing platform.
The Communal Bridge links the two riverbanks; it also appears on the ten‑rouble banknote. Constructed in 1961, the structure was later included in the UNESCO “World Bridge Engineering” compendium for its unique design. At night the bridge is illuminated by architectural lighting.
Музей-пароход «Святитель Николай»
Built in 1886, the vessel was once the fastest ship on the Yenisei. In 1891 the Tsarevich Nicholas II sailed on it, and in 1897 the same ship participated in the transfer of Vladimir Lenin to his exile location. Afterwards the ship was converted into a non‑self‑propelled oil tanker and eventually was scrapped.
Today the ship has been restored and moored alongside the Yenisei. Inside, a museum displays the captain’s and mechanic’s cabins, the helm, the engine room and the galley. Recreated are a first‑class cabin once used by Nicholas II and a second‑class cabin belonging to Lenin. The museum maintains a permanent exhibition on the history of Yenisei navigation, with rotating shows on various themes.
Музейный центр «Площадь Мира»
It is the largest exhibition space for contemporary art in Siberia. Opened in 1987 as a branch of the Central Lenin Museum, the venue switched to modern art in the 1990s. Now, besides a permanent collection, the centre regularly hosts diverse exhibitions and festivals, such as “Museum Night”.
Остров Татышев
Locals refer to the island as “Tatka”; it is a large city park. Open‑air walking areas, bike paths, sports fields and playgrounds are arranged throughout. The park serves not only as a leisure spot but also as a hub for cultural events — for instance, the VK Fest music festival took place there in 2024.
The island’s hallmark is its colony of ground squirrels. They are abundant, especially on the central meadow near the October Bridge. The animals are bold, often approaching people and standing on their hind legs as if begging for food. The park even features dedicated squirrel cafés and a “squirrel vending machine” that dispenses feed.
In winter the island transforms: an ice rink is flooded, an ice‑city is built and the tallest New Year’s tree in Russia — standing 55 metres — is erected. Consequently, the park offers something for every season.
Эко-парк «Гремаячая грива»
It is a picturesque forest park within the city limits. Pedestrian trails of varying lengths are laid out, requiring no special fitness. All accessible routes can be studied on a map at the park entrance; some connect the “Gremyachaya Griva” park with other attractions, such as the viewing platform on Nikolayevskaya Sopka. Several visitor centres are located inside, equipped with benches, restrooms and coat‑check facilities.
Торгашинская лестница
The staircase comprises 1,683 steps and holds the title of the longest in Russia. It leads to the summit of the Tregashinsky Ridge, a mountain rise dotted with numerous rocks that offer sweeping views of the city and surrounding hills. The total length is 1.2 km, with an elevation gain of 240 m. Along the way there are rest areas with benches, and at the top a viewpoint complete with a bar counter. Night illumination gives the steps a dragon‑like shimmer, which is why the structure is often likened to a moving dragon.
Национальный парк «Красноярские Столбы»
Allocate a full day for a hike to the “Stolby” National Park, famous for its unusual syenite rock formations. The protected area covers more than 47,000 hectares and is a signature attraction of Krasnoyarsk, ranking among the most visited national parks in Russia. Conquering the “Stolby” does not require elite climbing skills; the site now offers full infrastructure: eight trails of varying lengths, information boards, signage, equipped rest spots, food service points and restrooms.
The optimal season is September, when the weather is still mild and dry, the forest dons vibrant autumn hues and tick activity is at a minimum. Visitors can enjoy forest walks, climb a couple of rocks and capture striking photographs.
Где поесть
Krasnoyarsk is often hailed as the gastronomic capital of Siberia. The city offers cuisines from around the world, ranging from Israeli to Georgian. A special focus is placed on Siberian fare, which blends dishes of indigenous and visiting peoples from the region. Several restaurants serve authentic Siberian dishes, making them worth a visit.
Tunguska
One of the city’s most popular spots showcases modern Siberian cuisine. The interior features dark tones, natural stone and wood. Guests can choose dishes from the menu or opt for a tasting set. The restaurant offers a wide selection of northern fish, reindeer, elk meat, forest herbs and other specialties of the Yenisei Siberia. It has earned several prestigious culinary awards.
«Хозяин тайги»
The venue immerses guests in the atmosphere of a Siberian forest, with views of mountains, the river and a real fireplace in the main hall. “The Owner of the Taiga” specializes in author dishes crafted from traditional northern ingredients, game delicacies and meats. Signature items include mushroom and nettle stroganoff and a Siberian hot‑pot featuring reindeer, elk, veal and wild rabbit.
«Чешуя»
A two‑storey eatery with a summer terrace is situated in the city centre. Its menu is dominated by seafood sourced worldwide, while local produce receives special emphasis. The restaurant offers fish in myriad preparations — from sushi and cutlets to fish fillings in pies.
If you crave something more familiar, head to the “Unusual Dumpling House”, where dumplings from around the globe are served — from ravioli to buuz. For Italian fare, visit Mike&Molly, where pizza is baked in a wood‑fired oven. Those interested in Georgian cuisine should try “Khmeli Sumeli”, renowned for an extensive selection of khinkali fillings ranging from classic meat to fish and shrimp. The “12 Layers” patisserie offers a variety of pastries, such as a pistachio‑cream and raspberry‑curd cube, while “RomBaba” patisserie serves delicate cakes and pastries.
Где выпить кофе
Finding quality coffee in Krasnoyarsk is easy; the city hosts numerous specialty cafés that employ alternative brewing methods and distinctive beans.
Estafette Coffee
The chain comprises three distinct cafés, each meriting its own spot in this guide. The futuristic outlet on Prospekt Mira, 25 (formerly Zizzi Coffee) occupies a building over a century old. Opt for a filter coffee and pair it with a fig‑glazed muffin.
On Karl Marx Street, 96 lies the roasting hub of the network. Visitors can watch the roasting process, join a cupping session or simply sip a cup of coffee; this outlet operates only on weekdays.
At Lenin Street, 137 you can not only enjoy a brew but also purchase a bouquet, as the café shares space with a flower shop.
Mitte
A modest café in the city centre serves excellent coffee, breakfast dishes and wine. Its interior follows a vintage aesthetic: unfinished walls, retro chairs and a bar counter fashioned from a dresser. In summer the panoramic window opens onto a terrace.
Hello Coffee
A young yet promising café occupies three rooms: a breakfast hall, a dinner area and a space dedicated to gastronomic masterpieces. Coffee is served not only as a beverage but also as a marinade for meat, butter, sauces and creams. An unconventional offering includes a Hoop funnel brewing method.
Что посмотреть за городом
Село Овсянка
The village is the birthplace of writer Victor Astafyev, author of “The Siberian Tsar‑Fish”, “Lake Vasyutkin” and other celebrated works. A memorial complex dedicated to him includes his house‑museum and his grandmother’s house, known as the “Last Salute” story museum. In 2024 a National Center commemorating the 100th anniversary of Astafyev’s birth was inaugurated. Spanning three floors, the centre hosts a museum, conference and exhibition halls, an intellectual centre, a children’s centre, a souvenir shop, a café and a view platform.
Visit Ovantsevo to get closer to the writer’s legacy, observe the daily life of locals, stroll along the Yenisei and feed ducks. Afterwards, you may reach the “Tsar‑Fish” viewpoint and read the eponymous novella while seated on a bench overlooking the river.
Дивногорск и Красноярская ГЭС
Divnogorsk, a small town about 20 km from Krasnoyarsk, boasts a scenic embankment with views of the Yenisei and surrounding mountains. Locals and visitors alike gather there for recreation; on sunny days the area can become quite busy. The promenade features benches, loungers, swings, playgrounds, skate parks and sports equipment, as well as feeding areas for ducks where you can purchase feed.
Seven kilometres from Divnogorsk lies the Krasnoyarsk Hydroelectric Power Station, the second‑largest in Russia. Construction began in 1956 and the final turbine was commissioned in 1971. The structure is impressive: the dam stretches 1,072.5 metres and rises 128 metres high. As a strategic facility, the plant can only be viewed from the outside, with dedicated observation platforms provided. Additionally, the site houses Russia’s only river‑ship lift, which raises vessels to overcome the dam.
