Smartwill launch its first sedan, the#6 EHD, on June 11. The #6 is a PHEV liftback with a 1.5-litre turbo engine and a CLTC EV range of 285 km. Pricing begins at 189,900 yuan (28,000 USD). Smart earlier announced pre-sales would begin at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show.

Since its restructuring into a 50:50 joint venture (JV) between Mercedes-Benz and Geely, Smart’s lineup has been largely revamped, with new-energy (NEV) models. The brand currently offers the#1 compact SUV, the#3 coupe SUV, and the#5 midsize SUV.

The #6 is Smart’s firstGeely-era model to launch solely with PHEV trims. The #1, #3, and #5 were all launched as EVs, with the #5 later receiving a mid-cycle refresh that introduced a 1.5T PHEV powertrain for the SUV.

Styling and Interior

On the outside, the #6 follows Smart’s new design language. Its front fascia matches the rest of the range. As a liftback sedan, it has a large rear glass hatch. The #6 offers an optional active rear spoiler.

Smart’s design cues are equally evident on the inside, featuring a dual-screen infotainment system first seen on the #5. The brand says the #6 will feature a Sennheiser sound system with a 7.1.4 layout and a rated maximum power of 2000 watts.

Powertrain, Batteries & Range

The #6 receives the same PHEV powertrain from the #5, with the 1.5T engine cranking out 120 kW (161 hp). It’s paired with a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) and a 200 kW (268 hp) motor, for a total power output of 320 kW (429 hp). All trims are FWD-only.

Buyers can choose between two LFP battery options: a 20 kWh SVOLT (135 km CTLC range) or a 41 kWh CATL (285 km range). While Smart hasn’t shared fast-charging info for the #6, the #5 charges from 30-80% in 20 minutes for the smaller pack and 15 minutes for the larger.

Smart claims that with a full tank of petrol and a topped-off battery, a #6 with the big LFP pack can cruise up to 1810 km. Updated MIIT figures rate the #6’s fuel consumption with an empty battery at 4.75-4.79 L/100km.

Chassis & Performance

Although Smart has not confirmed it, sources expect the #6 to feature front McPherson struts and rear multi-link suspension, mirroring the configuration on the #5. Smart asserts that Mercedes-Benz has extensively tuned the #6’s suspension and chassis, and that frequency-selective dampers (FSD) will also be available.

Smart also promises minimal impact on performance at a low state of charge, claiming that the #6 will complete the 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.7 seconds at its slowest.

For reference, the #6 measures 4,906 mm in length, 1,922 mm in width, and 1,508 mm in height. It rides on a 2,926 mm wheelbase. Smart specifies its curb weight as 1,990 to 2,099 kg, with variations depending on trim level.

More on Smart

Smart was founded in 1994 through a partnership between Daimler-Benz and watchmaker Swatch. Focused on micro city cars and quirky sports coupes, it was revamped in 2019 as a 50:50 joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Geely.

Smart is not doing well in China. The brand moved only 1,703 units domestically in April 2026, according toChina EV Datatracker. Sales are gradually declining, except for a brief peak of 3,716 units in December 2025 that coincided with the partial phase-out of NEV subsidies.

The brand sold only 30,799 units in 2025, and its shift to PHEVs has yet to yield significant dividends. The arrival of the #6 EHD sedan is a step toward diversifying Smart’s lineup, and it remains to be seen whether the brand can prosper in both China and abroad.
