The Lion and the Mouse

A Lion was asleep in the forest. His great head was on his paws. A little Mouse came upon him unexpectedly and ran across the Lion’s nose. The Lion woke up. He laid his paw angrily on the small Mouse to kill her. “Let me go!” begged the poor Mouse. “Please let me go and some day I will help you.” The Lion did not believe that a Mouse could help him. But he was generous and finally let the Mouse go. Some days later, the Lion hunted for food in the forest. And he was caught in the hunter’s net. He couldn’t free himself. He roared angrily. The Mouse quickly found the Lion. The Mouse gnawed the great rope until it parted. And the Lion was free. “Now you see that even a Mouse can help a Lion,” said the Mouse.
