FACILITIES CREATED FOR FOREIGN TOURISTS VISITING SHAKHRISABZ IN THE FRAMEWORK OF TOURISM DEVELOPMENT

Construction of Shakhrisabz Airport commenced in 1978, and the facility was commissioned for operation in 1983. In accordance with the implementation of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PQ-376, dated November 28, 2023, "On measures to establish modern service and tourism facilities in the mountainous-recreational areas of the Kashkadarya region," "Uzbekistan Airports" JSC has undertaken comprehensive measures at Shakhrisabz Airport. These include developing the necessary infrastructure to ensure aviation and flight safety in compliance with the standards and requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), as well as providing specialized technical equipment and qualified personnel for aircraft ground handling. Since September 11, 2024, Shakhrisabz Airport has resumed operations, establishing regular civil aviation flights. Since September 11, 2024, Shakhrisabz Airport has resumed operations, establishing regular civil aviation flights. From that period, twice-weekly flights between Tashkent and Shakhrisabz were launched utilizing the L-410 small-capacity aircraft.

Furthermore, under the Presidential Decree dated February 7, 2025, "On additional measures to accelerate the socio-economic development of the Kashkadarya region," the airport’s runway underwent a major overhaul to accommodate medium-range aircraft. Additionally, the terminal complex was reconstructed to serve up to 100 passengers simultaneously.

In 2025, Shakhrisabz Airport handled 207 flights and served 5,975 passengers. Since the beginning of 2026, more than 350 tourists from France, the Czech Republic, Moldova, Germany, and the Russian Federation have arrived via Shakhrisabz Airport to visit the city's historic monuments and landmarks.

To enhance convenience for international visitors, daily flight operations were established starting from March of this year. In 2026, the airport aims to facilitate 365 flights and provide services to 11,315 passengers.
